Who's Praying, Dude?

LANGAW!

Nag-komento na nga raw ang Moderator: "Forced donation is an oxymoron!"

***************

ITO ang aking palagay::

Huwag mang-abuso. Babalik at babalik din yan sa inyo.

In a bizarre twist to the case of Bedol, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita yesterday announced that Malacañang is ready to extend protection to Bedol if his case concerns his safety and if he asks for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if, after all these years, garci was offered assistance in some ways, too, to go in and out of the country at the time he was asked to appear in Congressional Hearings.....

PADULAS!

LITTLE by little, the racket in this regime is beginning to unfold. Rackets of all sorts have been synonymous with this wretched "administration" that documenting them would be necessary for the likes of Ambeth Ocampo's qualified eye to discern and catalogue.

THERE's the much-talked about "Hello, Garci?" controversy, to which gloria of the thousand lies have admitted, albeit indirectly, by saying: "I........am........sorry." She delivered it with such look that it behooves every Pinoy who saw it as something rehearsed under the tutelage of film director Lupita K.

THEN there's that Pidal Files....or the Rizal Day speech, the most expensive highway in all the world, and the shortest, named after the Malacanang gloria's father, DM, would leave any Common Tao smirk with disgust, and many more. I could enumerate them all here, but the space, my dear, wouldn't suffice, I assure you.

LAST week, outgoing Negros Oriental Rep. Herminio Teves had claimed that the congressional confirmation process was attended by extortion involving some members of the CA. He said a cabal he called the “Big 5” extorted up to P5 million from government officials seeking confirmation of their appointments from the body.

IT seems that the bombshell doesn't stop there: Take note of this:

‘2 ex-DepEd chiefs hit for cash, favors by CA members’

By Alcuin Papa
Inquirer
Last updated 04:23am (Mla time) 06/27/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- A former education official has revealed details of the alleged extortion racket in the Commission on Appointments, involving the confirmation of two former education secretaries.

But the way the official, who asked not to be named, told it, the racket more often than not involved “horse-trading,” not always in money terms but in the form of positions, projects and favors of one sort or another from the Department of Education (DepEd).

The DepEd has the biggest budget of all government agencies.

The former education official said that on at least two occasions during the confirmation hearings for then Education Secretaries Florencio Abad and Edilberto de Jesus, the DepEd was asked for money in exchange for speeding up the process.

He said in 2004, the House contingent in the CA invited Abad and other education officials to a meeting at a restaurant in Quezon City.

He said the congressmen’s group was led by Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay who served as the group’s unofficial spokesperson.

He quoted Pichay as saying that P5 million would have to be made available for each congressman.

He said Abad agreed but said the amount would not be in cash but in the form of school buildings, an outlay for teachers and furniture. Abad also insisted the amount be spread out over two years “or the budget of the DepEd would be affected.”

‘Everybody needs it’

Abad, who is himself a former member of Congress, later told the DepEd officials that he agreed to the deal as “everybody needs it [DepEd funds] anyway.” Abad got his confirmation.

“The question is, was the amount in exchange for confirmation or a palambing [sweetener]. We got the impression that that was how the game was played. I would not have been surprised if, had he [Abad] not agreed to the deal, he would not have been confirmed,” the source said.

Earlier in 2003, during the confirmation of De Jesus, the source said two congressmen approached the secretary and said he needed to “make available” a certain amount. The two congressmen also wanted 30 percent of all DepEd textbook contracts.

“He [De Jesus] said that in principle, he would not make these deals,” the source said. Besides which, the textbook contracts had already been concluded and the books delivered.

The official said the two congressmen “made sure” De Jesus was not confirmed. Not only that, the source said the two congressmen made sure the DepEd was hauled before the House committee on good government on the issue of the textbook contracts.

“Clearly, it was a quid pro quo. The worse part was that the two were Lakas guys,” the official said.

When De Jesus tried to raise the issue with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Malacañang officials, he was told “bahala ka sa confirmation mo” (you are on your own). De Jesus was never confirmed.

Abad told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that it was the “usual” practice for congressmen to ask for concessions from officials seeking confirmation.

“I don’t know if you can call it a bribe but [it’s] usual for solons to take advantage of the CA and budget hearings to ask for projects, appointments or the resolution of local constituency issues,” Abad said in a text message.

Pichay denial

Contacted for comment, Pichay on Tuesday denied that he or any member of the CA had asked Abad for anything.

“That is not true. In fact, it was he [Abad] who requested the meeting,” Pichay told the Inquirer.

Pichay recalled that Abad “wanted to be confirmed immediately. We said ‘OK, no problem.’”

During the meeting, Pichay said Abad gave them a list of projects for every district.

“There is nothing wrong with that. We told him to implement these immediately. But we never asked for anything,” Pichay said.

He also pointed out that the issue was taking on political color as Abad was a member of the Black and White Movement which had sought the ouster of the President.

PADULAS has been here for as long as the people remember, but it has been so rampant these days that the people manning our Inang Bayan stinks to high heavens, I can smell it from where I am!

IWOJIMA NOW IWOTO

Iwojima, the famous patch of volcanic rock in the Pacific where Japanese and U.S. forces fought a fierce battle toward the end of World War II, is no longer known by that name, officially speaking.

Long known as Iwojima, this island 1,200 km south of Tokyo is now officially known as Iwoto.

The Geographical Survey Institute, which conducts surveys and provides basic geographic data for the nation, announced Monday that the official name of the island is now Iwoto, which is what local residents called it before the war.

Iwoto means "sulfur island." Since the Japanese word for island can be expressed as "shima" or "to," the meaning will stay exactly the same.

"Shima" and "jima" mean the same thing, but the pronunciation changes to "jima" depending on the character that precedes it.

The institute said the name was changed at the request of the island's former residents, who were displaced by the Self-Defense Forces.

Iwoto became widely known as Iwojima (sometimes spelled as two words) as U.S. military personnel spread its name far and wide for decades after the war. Some Japanese mainlanders use to call it Iwojima, too, spelling it that way on maps before World War II.

"I have felt something was wrong because the name of my hometown was called by a different name after the end of the war. I'm really happy," said 74-year-old Yoshiharu Okamoto, who heads an association of former Iwoto residents.

The island became the site of one of the fiercest battles of the war as
61,000 U.S. Marines landed to attack 21,000 entrenched Japanese soldiers in February 1945.

In the end, all of the Japanese soldiers were killed or taken prisoner and about 29,000 marines were either killed or injured.

There were 1,164 Iwoto residents in 1944 before they were forced to evacuate.

>due to volcanic eruption on the island.<

ISKANDALO!

may malaki at may maliit lamang.

good or bad.

O Abu-Sayaf man...kesehodang JI member yun.
O carnap gang!
Basta nakapose sila ni madam!
Tapos, kapag naisulat at naurirat ng mamamahayag,
sisigaw at aalma dahil "private citizen" siya!

ANO ba yan!?

PEOPLE'S VICTORY

THAT is how Senator-elect Antonio Trillanes IV described his winning the election as the 11th senator in the last midterm elections. He said he came at the right time when the Nation is seeing the truth behind the facade that the Malacanang illegal occupant is trying to portray.

HIS victory is widely seen as a protest vote against Arroyo who has been dogged by allegations of massive cheating to win the May 2004 elections.

TRILLANES previously said if he was elected, he would seek to have Mrs. Arroyo impeached for corruption and massive cheating in order to stay in power. He also vowed to investigate the rash of extra-judicial killings.

BUT Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr., who has shown displeasure at the victory of senator-elect detained Antonio Trillanes IV, former Navy junior officer, pursued his goal of humiliating Trillanes further and showing utter disrespect for the new senator of the republic’s office by having him brought to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) building in handcuffs.

TRILLANES arrived for the ceremony in Manila in handcuffs, flanked by armed guards after being given temporary leave from a military camp where he is in detention. The handcuffs were removed just before the start of the ceremony.

FUNNY but I see his guards smiling in various pictures in the broadsheets. They must be enjoying their trip, walking alongside the popular Trillanes who was met by COMELEC staff who left their desks to get a glimpse of the newl Senator.

HOW I wish I was there to witness History in the making!

:"I won't run in the 2004 elections." -gloria arroyo on Rizal Day rites in Baguio.

:"God told me that I am the best leader to run this nation!" - gma on her "vision", as the 'chosen one' for the country.

:"Hello, hello, garci!?" Why is that, madam? Di po ba, bawal yun? Sa inyo lang ba puwede? Sa iba, bawal? Boo-hoo!

There are more, I know....and I can't recall all of them right now.
But all these are stored in the recesses of my mind.
I am quite sure they are, also, in our Kababayan's store of remembrance.

I am just writing them down for posterity sake, lest I forget.

These would also serve as a reminder how close we got to having a disaster
like this Liar-Liar problem called gloria.

Wanna share some?

BALIMBINGAN BLUES

Ano ito, Pact^with-the^Devil?

at " singing sweet music" with the devil...

Ahahay!

Alan Peter Cayetano at Antonio Trillanes.

AGAIN?

Interesting people litter the COMELEC.

We have Abalos who is likened to a puppet of the very people who appointed him there.
He mouths words fed on him by his benefactor. Pity him who has the capacity to clean up the mess, yet keeps on pounding on the wrong and giving leeway to the corrupt. One thinks he is that corrupt himself!

IN 2004, garci was the main attraction; NOW we have bedol, whose full name LINTANG bedol annoyingly fits him to the max.

The Daily Tribune says it all:Interesting people litter the COMELEC.

IN 2004, garci was the main attraction; NOW we have bedol, whose full name LINTANG bedol fits him to well.

The Daily Tribune says it all: Bedol does a garci, goes missing

And, to add salt to injury, here is what COMELEC's abalos has done:

Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr., who also then claimed he was clueless over Garcillano’s whereabouts, yesterday also said he has absolutely no clue as to Bedol’s whereabouts but pointed out that Bedol cannot be restrained, since there is no order for his arrest. Neither has he been cited for contempt by the Comelec acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBC).

Funny, abalos seems to say that he is unaware of the happenings in his turf!
My goodness! What kind of Chief is that?

One may think, and rightly so, that nowadays, cheating is a COMELEC tradition.

It's trustworhiness used to be unadulterated during Christian Monsod and Haydee Yorac's terms.

Alas! but those days are gone now.

These days, it is abalos, the COMELEC Cheat
while gloria cheats-by-the Pasig.

Sanabawitz!

RAINS & SCHOOL

THE RAINY season has begun, and so with the opening of schools.
As usual, Pinoys are haunted with numerous problems enough to make those super migraines stay for good.

There are those school fees, uniform, school things and so on. I still wonder how Nanay reacted when we asked for new school bags or to buy-me-this and -that. Tatay was always spared of those school opening preparations because of his travels, but Nanay? She must have found the task unreal.

The problem is doubled if a family do not earn much. Imagine the horrors of those jobless family men! And even if people send their kids to public schools, the "other" expenses are enormous. Uniforms and pencils and paste and so on....

IT is no doubt, chaos out there especially when rains start pouring in. Honestly, rain in any tropical country like ours is a welcome respite from the dirt and grimes, aside from the irritating heat of Pinas summer, but typhoons? Mama Mia!

TROOPING to the school grounds on the first day of school is practically chaos, but at least, a notch lower than those who voted in the last Mid-term elections.

THERE will be wailing and crying, and clinging and shouting, especially when kids wouldn't want to be left alone in a new environment.

SCHOOL authorities would be on hand to accept all enrollees even if the DepEd says
[based on madam's instruction, no doubt!] that there are enough classrooms and teachers on hand. We all know that that is another big lie!

HOW I wish the money she spends in all those junkets abroad be spent to create the necessary classrooms and books, or even some extra free meal for undernourished kids.

IMAGINE the cost of her trips abroad. In Japan alone, here's some firsthand view on that:

It was not a chartered flight to Japan. It was an ordinary PAL flight because it was not an official visit. It was more a private visit and private activity that has nothing to do with the Japanese government even when PM Abe agreed to meet with her on request of the Philippine Embassy. Kaya lang 100 ang kasama at napuno ang first class at business class, pati yata ang economy class for the lower ranking PSG escorts. Still, ang laki ng gastos because they were all billeted at the Imperial Hotel, which is one of the most expensive hotels in Tokyo and the sponsor, Nikkei Shimbun was shouldering only her hotel bills. You're right then to assume that the cost for the others were shouldered by Filipino taxpayers via the Philippine Embassy. Kaya ubos na naman ang budget ng Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community here is again being asked to do some activities to be able to replenish the funds used for this expensive trip of this criminal.

For all you know they have formed a group here called "Philippine Assistance Group" which pays for the airfare, medication, etc. of stranded Filipinos, and they also raise funds for the criminal's so-called "Classroom ni Gloria!"

The reception for the Filipinos amounted to about 10,000 yen per person, and according to my friend at the embassy, the number of attendees reached over 200. 1US$ is 110 yen more or less. Aside from this reception, the criminal also entertained Japanese government officials and private people separately. The least, she had spent for this Japan trip is about 50M yen. Point is this woman has no right to spend Filipino money for her selfish ambition.

GET the picture?

I agree that the money used on those trips along with numerous alalays must be enormous.

NOW I know why we start school every June....when rains begin and typhoons come-a-visiting.... It must be to hide the tears that people shed.

AND to think, she claims that the economy is up and the Peso is strong!

THE reality is in-your-face: the economy is as short as the woman who runs off with the money in her pocket.
