Crowning glory

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Finally, Congress has voted overwhelmingly to act on the presidential complaint and impeached Renato Corona. That’s the second best Christmas gift the House of Representatives has given the nation. The first of course was impeaching Erap (Joseph Estrada) 11 years ago.

The articles of impeachment against Corona are legion and richly deserved. The crux of them being, as one of the eight articles puts it, a monumental failure to live up to “the stringent (constitutional) standards that (demand that) a member of the judiciary be a person of proven competence, integrity, probity and independence.” Corona has proven himself only, as specified by the other items on the laundry list, to be incompetent, dishonest, fraudulent and a lackey to his sponsor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Not surprisingly, Edcel Lagman is howling his head off. Which only shows how if you’ve gotten used to seeing an upside-down world, you’re going to complain that it’s upside down when it’s been turned back on its feet. “The derogation of our democratic institutions,” he rails from his imagined heights, “is almost complete with the emasculation of the House of Representatives, the violation of civil liberties, the impairment of the rule of law and now the destruction of the Supreme Court and the judiciary.”

But of course it is a brilliant description—of the Arroyo regime. Well, maybe not that brilliant since it understates the pits to which his own sponsor plunged this country. “Derogation of our democratic institutions” does not quite come close to capturing the enormity of “Hello, Garci.” Just as well, the “complete emasculation of the House” does not quite encompass what Arroyo’s representatives did to the impeachment complaint against her. That one, for all the lofty rhetoric that accompanied it, was just a pathetic version of MC Hammer’s classic rap, “Can’t Touch This.”

I leave the readers to supply his own examples of “the violation of civil liberties, the impairment of the rule of law, and the destruction of the judiciary” during Arroyo’s time. They will suffer from an embarrassment of riches.

Not surprisingly as well, Corona himself is howling at the moon. That is at least how the public sees it. He himself sees it differently. He sees it as rallying the troops to fight those that threaten to destroy the courts and democracy. “I am here. I am not going anywhere. I am your defender and most of all I am your chief justice. Together we will face these challenges and fight all who dare to destroy the Court and our system of justice under the Constitution.”

That’s all very fine, except for one thing. You are not the one defending democracy, you are the one destroying it. You are not the one preserving the courts, you are the one scuttling them. You are not the one upholding the Constitution, you are the one trashing it.

And, oh, yes, you are going somewhere: straight to the dustbin of history after a short and completely forgettable tenure as chief shyster.

Corona may imagine he is John Paul Jones announcing to the world that he has just begun to fight, but to the people of this country he merely cuts the figure of an Arroyo clone. Arroyo was a fake president, Corona is a fake chief justice.

Arroyo became president by calling up Garci in the midnight hour, Corona became chief justice by being appointed by Arroyo in the midnight hour. Arroyo was proclaimed president to the chirp of cicadas with no audience in attendance to protest or boo, Corona was proclaimed chief justice to the baying of dogs with no audience in attendance to rant or decry. Arroyo refused to step down after being found out to have screwed the vote, brazening it out, fighting and clawing to keep her post. Corona has refused to step down after being found out to have screwed law, brazening it out, bristling and clawing like a cornered rat.

Arroyo was sent packing by an Edsa masquerading as an election. Corona will be sent packing by justice masquerading as an impeachment.

Corona’s impeachment is the best thing to have happened to democracy in a long time. Corona’s impeachment is the best thing to have happened to the courts in a long time. At the very least, it begins the process of cleansing the Supreme Court of its dregs, not unlike the way Jesus Christ rid his father’s temple of seedy merchants. Corona is not the Supreme Court, he is merely a squatter in it. Corona is not the institution of law, he is merely the despoiler of it.

At the very most, rather than befouling the Constitution and the separation of powers, it deodorizes them. Corona’s impeachment reminds us of what the Constitution and the separation of powers really are.

The Constitution is not just a piece of paper, like the one you find in toilets, to be used the way Arroyo’s justices have used it, and flushed afterward along with what they put on it. The Constitution is what constitutes the people. The Constitution is the flesh and blood of the people, the heart and soul of the people, the will and voice of the people. It does not exist to be bent by crooked judges, it exists to flail at crooked judges.

Just as well the separation of powers is not there to assure a division of spoils, each branch having its own preserve to rule like a fiefdom. The separation of powers is there to assure that each branch serves the people, each branch checking the other to make sure it is acting in the interest of the people and not merely its own. That is what Corona’s impeachment is all about. It makes sure the Supreme Court acts on behalf of Juan de la Cruz and not of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Corona and Gloria: They are the crowning glory of tyranny. Impeaching one and jailing the other:

Not to be outdone, Edcel Lagman has come up with his two-cents’ worth too. There’s history, he says, to argue for putting his favorite non-president under house arrest. The list of famous and infamous people who met with that fate includes Augusto Pinochet, Paris Hilton, Nikita Khrushchev, Aung San Suu Kyi and Galileo Galilei.

Now, how weird is that?

At the very least, that’s so because as our Inquirer story pointed out, for every person you can name that got meted house arrest, you can name just as many or more who met with much harsher fates than being kept in a detention center. South Korean presidents Roh Tae-woo and Chun Doo-huan were summarily thrown in jail after being arrested for a variety of crimes, the former kept in solitary confinement for a time. The same was true of Taiwan’s president Chen Shui-bian.

That does not include the fate of hated leaders like Nicolae Ceausescu, Benito Mussolini and Mohammad Najibullah who were torn limb from limb by an irate mob. Najibullah in particular was castrated, dragged to death by a truck, and hung from a traffic light with his balls stuffed to his mouth. A pity Ferdinand Marcos did not stay around to see if Filipinos and their Christian charity were less given to these passions than Afghans and their Islamic sense of retribution.

At the very most, while Arroyo is in perfectly good company with Nikita Khrushchev, Augusto Pinochet and Paris Hilton, she is not with Galileo and Suu Kyi. I can imagine that for someone like the peripatetic and party-loving Hilton, being confined to one’s domicile must be torture of hideous proportions. And so richly deserves it. But Hilton was arrested for reckless driving, not for reckless robbing.

While at this, I don’t know where Lagman got the idea that Khrushchev was placed under house arrest. In fact, after Khruschev was ousted, he was given a dacha and 500 rubles a month. He went into a depression afterward and spent his last years writing his memoirs, but writing at home however that may seem like punishment to many people is not known to be a form of house arrest. Or else I would have been under it for the last 25 years.

What takes the cake, however, and reflects on the quality of mind of Arroyo’s defenders, is that Lagman should put her on the same footing as Galileo and Suu Kyi. How different is Arroyo from both?

Let me count the ways:

Galileo was arrested for saying that the earth revolved around the sun, going against the powerful Church which preached otherwise. Arroyo was arrested for believing that the world revolved around her, conscripting the powerful Church to aid her in preaching the notion. Galileo was a man of science who extolled truth and detested ignorance. Arroyo was a woman of ambition who extolled ignorance and detested truth. Galileo did publicly recant at some point, saying “I am sorry” for having stolen from people their comforting belief that they were the pinnacle of creation. Arroyo did publicly recant at some point, or gave a verisimilitude of it, saying “I… am…sorry,” but clung on anyway and strove even more to attain the pinnacle of power.

Galileo never wavered in his beliefs anyway, which were later proven to be true. Arroyo never wavered in her claims, which were forthwith proven to be false. Galileo told the truth and suffered the consequences of it. Arroyo told the lie, and enjoyed the benefactions of it. Galileo was persecuted wrongfully, Arroyo is being prosecuted rightfully. Galileo’s fate spoke of the terrors of the Inquisition. Arroyo’s fate speaks of the wonders of the Enlightenment. History shows that Galileo should never have been put under arrest, house or not. History will show Arroyo should have been arrested long ago, sick or not.

From the other end, Suu Kyi gained world renown for battling a repressive regime. Arroyo gained world renown for mounting a repressive regime. Suu Kyi has shown enormous courage in the face of the junta’s threats for her to stand down or be put down. Arroyo has shown enormous temerity in the face of the people’s demands for her to step down or be swept away. Suu Kyi’s resistance to tyranny has been a source of inspiration to her people. Arroyo’s resistance to jail has been a source of merriment to her people. Suu Kyi continues to fight heroically to gain freedom for her country. Arroyo continues to fight desperately to retain freedom for herself. Suu Kyi risks life and limb to champion the law. Arroyo risks laughter and derision to dodge the law.

Suu Kyi is the Cory of Burma. Arroyo is the junta of the Philippines. Suu Kyi is being persecuted viciously. Arroyo is being prosecuted fittingly. Suu Kyi’s fate reminds us of the terrors of repression. Arroyo’s fate teaches us a lesson in liberation. By all rights, Suu Kyi should be at the head of her government right now. By all rights Arroyo should be at the pit of a cell right now.

But in the end, it’s not a matter of precedent or what others have done, it is a matter of justice and what we ought to do. Giving Arroyo to enjoy the comforts of home while awaiting trial for a multitude of monstrosities merely gives her more of the “executive privilege” she has always claimed for herself. It is an insult to the Morong 43 who were arrested without warrant and languished in jail without being charged. It is an injury to Francisco Gudani and Alexander Balutan who were seized and jailed for telling the truth. It is an insult and injury to the hundreds of political activists who were made to argue their innocence only in the afterlife.

It’s not just Arroyo who’s on trial here, we are too. How we deal with her is the test of our mettle. What we do with her is the test of our character. Heaven forbid that we are judged and found:

On manny's latest track...Neal H. Cruz is right...again!

While we`re at it, I believe, even before his latest fight, that Pacquiao must concentrate on where he is good, and that is boxing. This reminds me of that parable about the story told many times by my Father:

There was a family of duck who lived near a pond.

Everyday, little ducklings followed mother duck to the pond to
practice swimming, after all, that is what they do best.
Anyway, some days saw one little duckling aim
his eyes on the numerous birds soaring into the sky as they pass by.
This little duckling decided he wanted to fly.
After all, swimming bores him.
So he asked mother duck if he could learn how to.
Mother duck, of course was hesitant.
So she asked Father duck for his approval.
As expected, father duck was angry!
"Why would you want to fly when you are a duck?!", he thundered.
Baby duck said he had always wanted to fly up above the vast sky.
Baby duckling went into his daily routine with sad countenance.
Soon Father duck relented and warned Baby duck that he must
not forget how to swim if he want to learn another skill.
Baby duck promised and soon enough, he was happy learning
with the birds how to fly. Learn he did until he became an expert.
He was so happy flying that he soon forgot all about swimming.
Then one day, there was a storm and a great wind destroyed their
barnyard home. A great flood came and soon all the ducks were
out in the water swimming for safety. With all the haste all
Mother duck could do was survey the area and bring her baby ducklings
out of danger. She started counting her ducklings and
soon realized that one was missing!
She went back and saw this Baby duck struggling in the water.
He couldn't fly because of the strong winds;　　
all he could do to save himself is to swim...but he forgot how to go about it.
Mother duck carried her baby at her back and started to swim to join the others.
Lesson: IF you are a duck, be a duck!
God gave us gifts to harness and hone.
If God made you a teacher, be a teacher. Be good at it.
Do not aim for something you are not!

I always remember this and has posted the same parable a number of times in the past. I have shared the same one with students and friends who cared to listen. It has always made me think twice, thrice, and so many times before invading a "new territory" and endeavour. I'd like to think that becoming something is good...but oftentimes, I must think my good points first before I enter a "new horizon" in my life. That way, I lessen the unsavory outcome I may have to encounter if I didn't think better. Of course, there are struggles along the way, but if I see that a path isn`t that good for me, I retrace my steps and rectify steps for the best.

Pacquiao may be a good fighter, but just like an old tire, or an old car...there is what we call 'wear-and-tear' thing. He may be good but if people look at his face and body while he fought his latest encounter with JMM, I think he should retire and retire while he's on top {not so in his latest in Vegas!}.

He should also be happy and spend his life at ease with his billions[?] earned. He should also quit as Representative of Sarangani: there are better lawmakers than he can ever be. He is just wasting the country's coffer, just like his contemporaries in the "silent bench" like LL and his cohorts.

He should also stop singing. And voice experts know why. Someone in his circle who can boldly say the truth [at hindi takot na mawalan ng ambon] who has Manny's best interest should...., nah, must advice him to act appropriately as a mature individual to refrain from holding the mike in front of the public. A house party may be okay, especially kung sila-sila lang, baka ayos.........but as a pro? Naaaahhh!

Whewww!
For the first time in years I've spent here
I can't remember anything like it!
Imagine...a TEDEN?
I mean, here?
..... in Japan?!

That's unthinkable in so many ways.
But apparently, Typhoon # 15 packs strong winds that
electricity was interrupted most of yesterday.
It was such a long wait that I was able to finish
`Dear John' by Nicholas Sparks and wanting for more.
I survived on that----would-you -believe?----
ever-reliable LED solar flashlight!
The power didn't last long, though
[what with that full-packed 335-pages]....
I had to exercise my hands rotating the lever
to generate more power...hah-hah!

Anyways,
I woke up with the sun streaming through the
small opening of that window shield I left open
when I went to bed past midnight.

The sky is blue once more....
all traces of Typhoon #15=Roke erased.
Soft winds blowing.
A huge contrast to the howling winds of yesterday....
It was frightening.
Even that small green froggie
had to seek refuge behind
the door grills.
I felt for it as I paced the house,
muttering prayers that Typhoon #15
just vanish into thin air.

It's time clean the mess,
pick up the scattered laundry polls,
gather those tumbled planters
and put them back in place...

and scrub those windows!
Just to remove the sticky leaves that
splattered here and there
And the cars!
Goodness gracious!

Drove some parts of the GUN these last few days and

and Jiji's 2 big delivery trucks tumbled!
one was a total wreck and the other needed major repairs!
Another minus in the ever-growing economic deficits!

To top it all: that yasashii Ojii-san's
nearby BATAKE GOYA was blown by the winds!
What a pity! He said he kept looking for the blown roof
but he couldn't find it. He bowed his head and asked
for some apologies for the inconvenience that blown roof might
have caused us. Geez...in the midst of disaster, the old man had to say that?
I am really amzed at the ways and concerns of these old folks!
He has been a good Ojiisan who always hand me some of his precious
SATSUMAIMO [kamote to you, Pinoy!] during harvest season....
I gave all those wooden planks stacked up near the garage
so he can reconstruct his beloved GOYA
as he tends to his HATAKE.

AHHH...life!
But Japan will recover....

The arrival of the newly-acquired vessel Gregorio Del Pilar [actually a decommissioned, refurbished, 46-year-old coast guard patrol boat] from the US made headlines.

I believe it is about time [the previous ones never did anything, anyway, except to think of so many ways to rob, not love the Philippines!...] since the Chinese have also been making a lot of trouble even in the southwestern coast of Japan since I can remember. These intrusions have been numerous in the past and here's the latest...

Obviously, China wants to make its presence felt practically everywhere in this planet.

I have nothing against China, having Chinese blood in my veins and
having a lot of Chinoy friends from all over....

BUT something has to be done to stop this way of thinking.

Some quarters are adamant to have these issues resolved via peaceful negotiations. This may be good if both the participants are willing to talk and I mean...really talk! I have confidence in the PH team headed by our President...but would it be the same with their Chinese counterparts?
I'm afraid this is just like asking for a harvest of gold on Jupiter. They talk one thing today and they seem to have forgotten about the whole thing tomorrow. Honor is not the name of the game here, folks....

What do you think Japan has been doing these past decades? Because of its basic constitution that was forced into their stomach after the last WW...Japan has to remain armless in the face of external threats.

The fact remains: China has been a silent bully since after the last war.... and slowly but surely making its presence felt all over the world...whether by land, air ..or sea.

Perhaps this is so
because of the climate of freedom
we now seem to enjoy....

Unlike in the last nine years of duplicity

I sincerely hope and pray that

from a legitimate leader....
and grabbed it once again from a populist candidate.

Widely forecast Chubu quake prompts prime minister to take action

Kan requests full closure of Hamaoka power plant

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said Friday he instructed a utility to shut down a nuclear power plant in central Honshu because of concerns it might be compromised by major quake or tsunami that is expected to hit the region.

Kan said the measure was to ensure safety, citing widespread forecasts that there's a 90 percent chance of a major quake striking the Chubu region, a roughly nine-prefecture area just west of Tokyo, in 30 years.

"If an accident occurs at Hamaoka, it could create serious consequences," Kan said in a hastily arranged news conference, referring to the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in Shizuoka Prefecture.

Chubu Electric Power Co. has two active reactors and a third that's been shut for regular inspections at the plant, which is on the coast of Shizuoka just southwest of Mount Fuji.

Chubu Electric will shut down all of the remaining active reactors at Hamaoka, company sources said.

Kan said the nuclear power station should be halted until the utility takes medium- to long-term measures to protect against natural disasters, including ocean embankments.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said later in the day that the Hamaoka plant is likely to be shut down for around two years.

Japan has been stepping up efforts to improve nuclear safety since the March 11 mega-quake and tsunami caused the world's worst nuclear accident in a quarter century at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant run by Tokyo Electric Power Co. The tsunami left more than 25,000 people dead and missing in the northeast Tohoku region.

Kan said that the closure of the plant might cause power shortages in Chubu Electric's service area in the summer.

But Kan promised that the government will take utmost measures not to cause a major imbalance in power demand and supply in the region. He also called on the public to conserve electricity.

Situated on the Pacific coast in Omaezaki, the Hamaoka complex was built near a major fault line and currently has its No. 4 and 5 reactors online. It was hoping to restart the No. 3 reactor as early as July.

Reactors No. 1 and 2 have been out of operation for some time and are scheduled to be decommissioned.

The Fukushima No.1 nuclear plant lost its power and cooling systems, triggering fires, explosions and radiation leaks that combined to make it the world's second-worst nuclear accident.

Radiation leaks from the Fukushima plant have forced 80,000 people living within a 20-km radius to leave their homes. Many are living in gymnasiums and community centers.

Residents in Shizuoka have long demanded the suspension of the Hamaoka reactors.

I was out of the country when the disaster struck.
I was taken aback when I saw the screen feature the slow-mo
video clip of the tsunami rolling on the fields:
giant waves unabated....
as it gulped everything in its path.

I rushed to the phone and asked for GP.
He`s old, by any standards...
but this one seems to go stronger as the days grow old.
He is a bull incarnate and he growled at me
when he heard my voice.

As the days pass by, detailed news began to pour.
Earthquakes are part of life hereabouts.
But the tsunami?
And a nuclear reactor bursting?
Uh-uh....

Triple disaster, indeed!
And the weather at that time of the year!
The people up north must be a stronger breed.
I would be shivering at a mere gust of the wind.

GP gave me a list as soon as I arrived.
It is the list of people who gave what little they have left.
Times are already hard, even in this place.....
and we didn`t expect much.

I heard Ichiro [my beloved!] gave a billion yen to aid the refugees.
Ryo Ishikawa doubled what Ichiro gave.
More people, celebs and otherwise gave.
Our small group still collects....

These people are a hard-working lot.
They have had more than enough of their quota for suffering.

China is causing some alarm in the Asia-Pacific region these past decade or so~.

China, one of the biggest [by force?] countries in the world has been a bully. It has bullied its immediate neighbors like Nepal, Tibet and extending help to NoKor against Japan. It has also been involved in claiming islets half a globe away from its shores like the Spratlys.

Several days ago, a video footage apparently taken by three Japan Coast Guard patrol boats have found its way in YouTube showing how the "collision" really happened. But of course, China is protesting [as usual!] expressing its "concern" over its continuing strained relations.

In China, Chinese media reports that it was the Japan Coast Guard which rammed the chinese trawler. It was the other way around.

The video footage itself is damning. China can never recover and say theirs isn't at fault. It was the Chinese trawler which rammed into the JCG patrol boat despite repeated warnings in Chinese and Japanese languages. Masyadong mabait itong mga Japanese Coast Guard men. Everything by the book! Dapat diyan, binigyan ng gulpi de gulat at sipang de padyak para mabawasan ang kayabangan.

Pati ba naman ang Spratlys, kanila raw?

The recent brouhaha about the tweets of Carmen Mislang
while in Hanoi proved fatal, not only for her reputation but
also for the country in general.
Why?

Because it shows lack of breeding.
You're in another `house' and you say bad things against your host?
No matter how good you are, you must remember to behave
not only because people are looking, but because of the implications
your actions will generate that will reflect badly on your boss.

Or na-miss lang niya ang GMRC?
Pasensiya na po at may na-MISLANG sa
grupo ni P-Noy.

Pero kung may delicadeza itong mga ito,
marahil alam na nila ang gagawin.
I hope P-Noy listens not
to his colleagues who recommended these brats
but to the voice of the people.

Of late, I've been seeing articles titled this way.
Seems to me, nothing much has changed.
Perhaps, it's a little too early to tell....
and we need to stretch our patience and see what happens.

The news earlier says that gloria, the fake had her pork barrel inserted
in the new budget appropriations for 2011.
What??!! Same old story? Same old money!?
To quote my Lolo:
"...same-same, no change!?"

Tanong kayo nang tanong...
eh pareho rin naman ang nangyayari sa TONGreso.

The best solution is this:
SCRAP the pork!
Kung baga mag-diet tayo.
Healthy meals to make the nation grow.

Tingnan natin kung may tatakbo pa ring congressmen at
senators sa susunod na eleksyon.
Lasa ko matitira na lang yung tanging gustong magsilbi
para sa taumbayan.

Nitong nakaraang Huwebes, papuntang trabaho si Dave.
Bandang alas-otso ng gabi...
habang binabagtas ni Dave ang elliptical curve sa bandang NAIA3,
may biglang tumakbong patawid si Leo, 22-anyos.
Nabundol tuloy siya nitong nakamotor na si Dave.
Ang natamaan ang kanang binti ni Leo.

Hindi naman tumakbo si Dave.
Sa halip, naghintay ng pulis.

Katuwiran ni Leo, wala raw headlight ang motor.
Sinubukan ng pulis kung wala nga.
Nang buksan ng pulis, eh nakitang maayos at maliwanang ang ilaw.
Kumpleto ang motorista sa lahat ng kailangan
at naka-helmet naman.

Tumawag ng ambulansiya at kasabay ni Dave na dinala sa
San Juan de Dios Hospital itong si Leo.

Samantala, ang motor ni Dave ay kinumpiska ng pulis
at dinala sa isang presintong malapit na sakop ng Pasay City.

Sa SJDH, pinasok sa emergency room itong si Leo,
kasabay siyempre si Dave. Tinawagan ni Dave ang
kanyang hipag na si Zsa-Zsa na mabilis namang
tumungo sa nasabing ospital. Dumating din ang
kapatid ni Dave na si Maki.

Ini-X-ray si Leo at nakita na nagka-fracture ito sa kanang binti.
Nang tinanong na ng detalye, wala itong maibigay na permanenteng address,
sa madaling sabi NPA. Sinubukang tawagan nang ilang beses
ang pinakamalapit na kamag-anak na tiyahin daw.
Ayaw namang pumunta sa ospital.
Ni ayaw rumesponde at pinapatayan ng linya
kapag tumawag nang ilang ulit si Dave at kanyang mga kasama.

Bumili ng gaot si Dave, ipinainom sa "biktima" at
pinaghintay sila...sa kung ano, hindi rin nila maunawaan.
Kaya nung medyo ilang oras na ang nakalipas,
nagyaya itong si Zsa-zsa na mag-meryenda muna.

Lumabas ng emergency room si Dave at Zsa-zsa at naglakad palabas.
Nang nasa ikalawang kanto na sila, may sumisigaw na
guwardiya at ikinakaway ang kanyang batuta at nagsisigaw na:
"Hindi kayo puwedeng lumabas,Boss!
Hindi puwede!"

Nagtanong si Zsa-zsa kung bakit.
Sinabing kakain lang sila sandali at babalik din agad.
Ang sagot: "Hindi puwede!"

Kaya bumalik sila at nagtanong itong si Zsa-zsa.
"Bakit kanina, hindi ninyo sinabi agad.
Nakita ko kayong nanonood ng TV.
Nag-uusap lang ang iba....
Nakamiron lang at walang ginagawa.
Tas ngayong kakain lang kami,
eh dun pa kayo sa labas magsisigaw
na para kaming kriminal at magnanakaw:
may batuta pa kayo at nakasigaw.
Hindi puwedeng tumakas kami, dahil nasa pulis
ang aming motor. Nasa kanila ang lisensiya nito [Dave]. "

Nagtawanan lang itong mga guwardiya at 'orderly' [na naka-asul
na uniporme at may pulang border sa chinese collar] ng SJDH.

Dumating ang pulis at habang kinukunan ng statement itong si Dave at si Leo,
yung the same 'orderly' na nakipagtawanan sa mga guwardiya
ang nakaharap loob mismo ng cubicle,
nakahalukipkip na nakatayo
sa katabi nitong si Leo.
Nasuya si Zsa-zsa at sinenyasang umalis
itong walang kinalaman sa kaso.
Aba't lalong pumorma at hindi tuminag.
Lalong lumapit sa bed ni Leo.
Lumabas is Zsa at tinanong sa nars na nasa labas
kung sino yung naka-unipormeng yun.
Pumasok ang nars at sinilip ang loob ng cubicle.
Nang nakita ang 'orderly' nagsabing:
"Orderly po siya Ma'am."

"Eh bakit nandito?" -sabad ni Zsa-zsa.

Parang nakangising nagsalita ang nars ng:
"Lumabas ka daw kasi diyan, sabi ni Ma'am."

Lumabas nga sa cubicle itong 'orderly'
pero lumipat lang sa kabilang cubicle.
Pilit nakikinig sa interview na nangyayari.

Bakit kaya ganun...
kahit yung bagong dating na kasamahan nina Zsa
ang nakapansin ng garapal na kilos ng mga guwardiya
at itong naturang 'orderly'.

Patuloy ang ganoong eksena
[na tumatak sa ispan nina Zsa-zsa ]
habang naghihintay sila.
Sa kung ano, hindi nila mawari.....
Naisip ni Zsa-zsa na parang metrong kaybilis
[parang taksi!] na pumapatak ang
kanilang bayarin sa SJDH
sa bawa't sandaling nandoon sila.
Kung kaya't nagtanong sa attending physician
kung pupuwedeng ilipat
nalang ang pasyente sa pagamutang pang-gobyerno.
Binigyan si Zsa ng option-hospitals pero lahat ay pribado.
Nangatuwiran si Zsa na pamilyado at part-timer lamang itong si Dave
kung kaya't hindi kakayanin na bayaran ang napakalaking halaga.

Nag-suggest si Zsa na sa National Orthopedic Hospital dalhin itong si Leo.
Tutal, ang pagamutan para sa buto na alam mo at alam ko
at alam ng buong bayan ay ang Orthopedic.

Kinausap rin nila na kung puwede
mag-taxi na lang sila papuntang Orthopedic.
Kasi nga naman,
mahigit na namang 1 libo piso aabot
yung bayarin sa ambulance transport fee.
Sa halip na sa ibang bagay gamitin....
tutal naman, nakakalakad, nakakaupo at
maayos ang kalagayan ni Leo.
Pumayag ang doktor at sumang-ayon si Leo.

Matapos bayaran ni Zsa at kasama ang bill na umabot ng
PhP 9,000.oo +++ sa ilang oras na pamamalagi sa SJDH,
naghanda na silang lumabas.

Ang siste, eto na: umaayaw itong si Leo sa taxi
at kailangan daw na i-ambulansiya siya.
Nasulsulan pala nitong mga USI at `PAKI ng SJDH!
Nanghihingi pa ng pang-kape at marami pang iba!
Ayos lang sana....
ano ba naman ang kape,
tutal, gutom na rin naman silang lahat
dahil sa magdamagang paghihintay sa ospital.
Pero kakaiba ang mga hiling nitong si Leo.

Habang nasa loob ng ER itong si Leo, napansin kasi
nina Zsa na panay ang punta at bulong nitong 5 guwardiya
at nitong si 'orderly' kay Leo.
Marahil, kung anu-anong pinagsasabi.
Marahil, ang akala nila mayaman at puwedeng gatasan itong
sina Dave at Zsa-zsa at kasama....

Lumitaw ang naturalesa nitong mga guwardiya at
nagsipagtawanan na para bang tinutuya itong sina Dave at kasama.
Hindi na nakapagpigil itong si Zsa-zsa at nagsalita.

Inilabas ang kanyang opinyon na ilang oras ding pinigilan...
habang ang pakitungo ng lahat ng 5 guwardiya

ay sagot na panunuya at ngising ewan ko.

Sa National Orthopedic Hospital,
ini-Xray [ulit!] at ginamot....pagkatapos ay
sinimento ang kanang paa ni Leo at
niresetahan ng gamot na agad namang binili ni Dave.

Nang ihahatid na itong si Leo sa kanyang tirahan,
umayaw ito. Ang sabi, wala raw siyang tirahan.
Nang-suggest si Leo na sa Baclaran Church na lang siya ihatid.
Apparently, itong Baclaran area at paligid ang kanyang 'teritoryo'.....
Dito siya palakad-lakad at tambay.

Samantala, ang motor ni Dave ay kumpiskado.
Hindi puwedeng magtrabaho.
Walang sasakyan.
Paano na?

A night full of surprises.
One that revealed several facets of life.
Maraming tanong,
maraming bagay.

Sa pagkakaalam ko, ang 'orderly',
in medical terms, sabi ni Mr. Webster:
"a hospital attendant having general, nonmedical duties."
Tanong lang po:

Kasama ba sa duties ng orderly sa SJDH ang makialam,
manulsol, mag-usisa, magtsismis, manuya, mang-inis,
ng kahit sinong pasyente at kasama ng pasyente sa kanilang ospital?
Kaya nga orderly eh....
to give order, not chaos!
Sanabagan!

Pangalawa:

Lahat po ba ng guwardiya sa SJDH ay mga usisero at usisera?
Mga pakialamero at pakialamera?
Alam ko po na ang trabaho ng guwardiya ay magbantay.
To secure the area of responsibility.
Protect and safeguard the premises.
But to do it in such rude manner towards clients
and patients is beyond imagination.

I have always looked up to private medical instituttions as
respectable institutions out to assist in case of emergencies.

What happened is a reflection of the kind of services
SJDH gives....and a lot more.

People always look at the staff of an institution as
reflective of the type of management of that institution.
Eh sa pinakamaliit na staff pa lang,
wala na, I hate to believe na baka mas palalo ang mga nasa itaas.
Hindi naman siguro.
Baka na-overlook lang ang mga kumag na ito.
napabayaan,
hindi pinansin,
nasanay,
nagpatuloy,
nakakasakit ng kapwa.

And by the name the hospital goes by...
SAN JUAN DE DIOS!

But the staff-both high and low,
medical o otherwise,
must live up to the name they represent!
I wonder....
----alam kaya nitong mga sikyu/orderly na ito
ang kahulugan ng pangalan ng ospital
na kanilang pinagsislbihan.
Silbi sinulat ko, ha?

I am at a loss.....
I always want to believe in the goodness of people
But I guess I need to wait....
Not yet....
not in a very long while!

What then, would the management of SJDH do
regarding this incident?

Perhaps, more pastoral care for the staff nurse?
....even the guards and those chaotic and
disorderly orderlies??

Reminders, perhaps?
Another training on how to behave?
...on how to conduct themselves and
win back the respect of people?
Will the basic Good Manner and Right Conduct suffice?

I shall wait with the hope that
my waiting wouldn't be in vain.

But do they [management] care?

Just wanna add this:

The supposed "mother" filed a complaint at the Barangay and met with Dave & his Bro last Monday, along with some respected Elders of the community who knew Dave's family.

The "mother" insisted on asking for financial help since Leo cannot work. No papers were presented as to where and how much salary Leo is receiving. The Barangay official also ruled that the existing agreement between Dave & Leo, penned at the hospital in the presence of the policeman and the doctor as valid and thus, need no further discussion.

I specifically written "mother" because of the fact that the one who appeared cannot substantiate proof that she is, indeed Leo's mother. No address, no nothing, no letter from her Barangay to attest that she is representing whoever she said she was there to represent.

Meanwhile......

Someone from my loop sent the link for this post to that hospital's email addy.

I was happy to watch the video clips freely seen at GMA.TV site.
I felt the devotion of an only son to his mother
when PNoy walked up the stairs of Malacanang and

Do What You Can, Pinoy!

Much have been said about the tactics employed by Manny Villar that people have grown accustomed to his musings and call it outright dirty.

Likewise, so much have been written in newspaper columns and blogs thatVillar is, after all, aling gloria's "secret candidate", although obviously,it is no longer a secret. All these have been analyzed, most especially by my favorite columnist in the Inquirer, Conrado De Quiros, whose writings I must say, are allsuperb and worth reading and rereading even long after it has been published.

Villar's mistakes are all his to blame. Too much money in the coffer pays too many spin-writers hence, the ads they made eventually landed its way to their face. Kung baga,nabagsakan ng basurang itinapon din nila!

To say that Villar is spending his billions to gain support is an understatement. He is spending!...and how! Looking at his strategy, coupled with using that much-reviled Revillame in his sorties make me eternally sick! Is this the kind of people he consorts with?

It's election time among Overseas Voters, and I don't need to think anymore. I have decided already the candidates who deserve my precious votes. I hope they win and serve the country well.

Hindi puwedeng maghintay na lang at tumunganga. Hindi puwedeng maghintay na lamang ng mga susunod na mangyayari. Panahon na para iwasto ang alam nating pagkakamali sa mga nagdaang panahon. Hndi puwedeng pabayaang malugmok nang husto ang Bayang minamahal. Panahon na para makialam at ipaglaban ang ating karapatan. Panahon na para iwasto ang dapat iwasto.

Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa? Kung hindi tayo, sino ang gagawa? Iboto ang tama!

I feel the same.
The same as before.
The same feeling we all had when the mole
started to make her presence felt by the Pasig.

Justice is absent in every move this sanabagan have been making,
not to mention the blah-blah lies her appointed
spokesperson lorelei has been announcing.
Like boss, like spokesperson.
Well, whaddya expect?

I've seen the pictures and the videos as well.
I notice that the suspect was not shackled, much less handcuffed
when he was supposedly-arrested in Mindanao
and even in detention in Manila's NBI HQ.
Why is that?

Any person who has access to news around the world would say
that it is standard procedure to handcuff any suspect
who has been arrested for a crime....any crime!
And the crime involved here is not just the ordinary stuff
but one that could surpass the Guinness Book of Records.
Imagine 57 dead? This is carnage of the highest level!

Becoz, as lorelei says, he is still friends with the mole?
That's what makes ordinary law-abiding citizen like me angry.
Why not treat him like a common criminal.
maybe "common" is not the exact term
becoz he is not an ordinary guy: he is a monster
just like his clan.

Justice is lacking despite the office of the justice secretary.

Allowing special treatment with warlords like the ampatuans
and other similar warlords in Mindanao invites other groups,
clans and gangs in other areas like Ilocos, Nueva Ecija/Vizcaya,
Isabela and many more to go on doing what they want
in order to control power.
All these with the blessings of the
number one gangster leader in Asia.

Is this what she wants to be remembered in history?

All things in life are passing.
We, mortals cannot bring whatever we have on this earth
to where we go when our body cease to live.

Someone wrote some lines that made an impact
on my life and I remember them well especially on days like these:

"A hundred years from now,
it will not matter what my house looks like,
the kind of cars I drove....
or how much money I had in the bank.
But the world may be different.....
because I was important
in the life of a child."

It could be a child...
or a person.
It doesn't matter.
But the difference is felt if we do something right,
no matter how small it may seem at first.

Justice is those small things we do that is right.
Leaders of a community have more impact on other people's lives.
It is they....whom people look up to.
Why don't they make things right?

"What news?" I asked.

"That massacre...massacre in Mindanao!"
was his reply.

I was alarmed.
A couple of my kins are based in Mindanao.

Then I saw the news: I thought there was a mistake.
It couldn't happen to a supposed-to-be "free" country like ours.

It appears that these savages are friends of arroyo, the mole.

It took her allies to remind her to skip party alliances
and prosecute, if not condemn the perpetrators of this
horrendous carnage.

There's a war out there!

Somebody stop it before senseless killings continue.

It seems that padrino system prevents da mole to condemn the killings.
The savages delivered the numbers the last time da mole made

Ahh...the call of fame and moolah is very hard to resist!

But I want change...so change it must be!
Change for a better Philippines.
Hence, I am throwing my support for the candidacy of Noy Aquino.
Suffice it to say that I am supporting him and his Vice...

but never on those balimbings who want to dance
~at the last minute~ with the winning team.

I hate recto and his balimbing ways.
I don't like him a bit....changing his loyalty as fast as he changed parties!
He vats VAT and now he wants change?

The Burning of Manila

I HAVE had sleepless nights lately. The nights are hot; days sweltering heat from the usual hot summer this country suffers every year. But no, it isn't the heat.....that is not the only reason why I can't sleep.

A COUPLE of days ago, I watched a docu film on TV made by NHK on its 20 years-anniversary celebration of its BS arm. It was about the rape or was it, properly labeled, The Burning of Manila.

IT SHOWED scenes I have never seen before....scenes that would forever be etched in my memory for as long as I live. I cried at the atrocities perpetrated not by the usual villains in the eyes of people like me who was exposed to american ways and books. It was done by american troops who made it sure that no one stayed alive.

THE VIDEO clips were scenes from the american side of the war. It detailed the surging american troops towards Manila, which they described [ based on records retrieved from the US Archives] as " The Beautiful Downtown", referring tot he south side of Pasig River.

THE DOCUMENTARY featured interviews of retired soldiers who were part of the american contingent at that time, Filipinos who were residents [some still are,] of Intramuros, A Filipino who worked at the PGH, Japanese soldiers, navy men, and Taiwanese recruits of the Japanese Imperial Navy. I must say that all sectors were represented, hence, fair ground for everyone.

DESPITE THE presence of civilians, the american troops were seen bombing no end the city, with Filipino men women and children seen fleeing to safer ground, but nonetheless caught in the web of gunfire, bombardments.
This didn't stopped for hours, nay, days on end. What's more, the american soldiers burned each building, making sure nobody stays alive inside them. Retreating Japanese soldiers, even if they raised their hands in surrender
were fired upon, killing not only the unarmed soldiers, but innocent civilians as well. When asked why they did so, one american ex-soldier replied: "We were ordered to do so!" Another, seeing the havoc that they created, cried,
saying his neighbors do not even know he has killed so many during the war. Another had the audacity to say: "We has endless supplies of ammunitions, so we used them all and killed every moving thing we saw!"

IN THE end, one can see a Manila I have never seen before: reduced to rubbles and decaying bodies of innocent men, women and children piled up; Manila City Hall were in shambles with its clock tower remaining, but the iron
steels visibly seen; the Tourism building and the finance building that has once housed the Japanese troops burned and reduced to rubbles, almost flatttened to the ground. There are more. It brings to mind the scene I once saw
at the Hiroshima Peace Center. The same one ravished by the bomb from the B29 dropped by Enola Gay.
And Nagasaki, too.

I CRIED. I cried for the countless civilians who were sacrificed and innocently died for the war that they cannot
control.

I CRY, even now.....as I recall the other side of war: the long-lasting effects of radiation that the bombs
continuously do inside the bodies of those orphans of war......

I CRY, as the effects of Agent Orange continue to ravage the children of Vietnam, Cambodia and other places
where they were used.....

I WONDER why these atrocities are not dealt with in the textbooks?

I WONDER why these are not taught students at all levels of education?

I WONDER......

IT IS time to wake up.

A Case of Pure Hypocrisy

It's been months since I visited this blog and I simply missed it.
NOW that I'm back at my desk, I can't help but write something about this lest I regret later.

I was at the airport,
somewhere near the group of newsmen waiting for someone to pass by. I thought, perhaps some celebrities were due. I was mistaken: there they were, carrying heavy coats and ignoring local media and stopping by some foreign correspondents to speak. The man responded that he has forgotten how to speak Tagalog, and has since entertained Japanese reporters ONLY!

Geez! The nerve!
I've been here and there all my life, but I have never claimed in all honesty, that I have forgotten the language of the country that has nurtured me and my siblings, not to forget my Father who, despite being a Japanese himself, never stopped talking to us in Tagalog! Funny, he even can talk in Fookien, English and a generous number of Visayan.

In Linguistics, studies have shown that one can never
forget one's mother tongue! This is true in ALL studies conducted and
everyone who has migrated to other countries can attest to that.
It is the height of hypocrisy for the Calderon husband to say
he has forgotten to speak our language.
After only 13 years?

While it is true that the younger generations have adapted the
language of their birth, no one can deny that still, the older ones,
maintain and speak their mother tongue at home:
whether they be in the States, in Canberra, or in London.
Same is true when in Japan, or in Shanghai...even Tainan.
Why? Purely instinct. It is easier to state your emotions,
to explain in the language you know from the heart.
I recall when at the moment when I was so tired and angry,
I burst into Tagalog as I answered Lolo's tantrums.
That is the only way I could express my sentiments without him getting hurt.
But I believe he sensed that, and has since been quite better than before,
....sometimes!

NOW back to that Calderon couple:
They entered Japan some 13 years ago on faked passports.
Then they appeal that they be allowed to stay?
For humaniatrian reasons?
Some guts, huh?

Instead of doing what they did while still in Japanese soil,
they shouls have been more apologetic and asked for forgiveness.
They went to media and appealed thir case to gain support.

I believe Japan has been good to them in the past years.
They have made a terrible mistake in using fake papers when they entered
a foreign country.It is good they weren't imprisoned for the crime.
They have had good opportunities and have earned their keep
while in this country.
I think that's enough.

And they better be good Filipinos, too.
Never deny you have lost your tongue, man!

Hindi maiaalis sa isipan ng lahat sa buong mundo ang resultang nagawa ng kulay yellow ni Cory Aquino sa pagpapatalsik sa mag-asawang diktador. Alam ng lahat na inspirado ng EDSA 1 ang nagaganap sa Bangkok ilang taon na ang nakakaraan kagaya ng kaganapan sa kasalukuyan.

DURING times of want and uncertainty, people all over the world think of ways to weave their way through hunger and pain. The same is true after WW2 to countries ravaged by war. Japan has risen amidst the ridicule and climbed the long ladder to become the world's number 2 as far as GNP is concerned. People worked hard nad saved much of what they earned.

WHAT I cannot understand is the way some supposedly-leaders in Pinas where most, if not all spend the taxpayers' money as if it's their own. These dorobos spend our money as if there is no tomorrow! These culprits start from the putative president and her minions, including the latest heist of what is now known as the "Euro-generals".

IMAGINE the millions in Euros they brought with them. Imagine how many millions of roads paved, millions of mouths fed, millions of books read by millions in remote barrios and hinterlands. Imagine how many schoolhouses and more teachers hired with those millions brought by these 6 men and their wives {or kabits} as they trumped their way to Moscow. Imagine also how the MIDGET make her way to NY or to SF or to wherever place she wanted to be. That sanabagan!

INSTEAD of spending those money, why not adapt the Austerity Program as envisioned by the predecessor of the MIDGET's 'father'? Carlos P. Garcia espoused Austerity during his term but was quashed by DM later on.

TIPID is the key.

NO to travels outside UNLESS very, very necessary. Grabe ang mga ito sa perang baon, na kung hindi nasabat sa Moscow, hindi pa lalabas ang mga baho ng mga animal na ito.

EVEN IF the videos were shown, people involved were asked, multi-media coverage were done by big networks, the very same people who were the subject of recent exposes that they involved in scams investigated, questioned, the hoodlums in robes ruled out kidnapping. Goodness!

The race to succeed Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda as president of the Liberal Democratic Party became more heated Friday with three more lawmakers indicating their intention to run.

Earlier, four well-known politicians said they were planning to run or were stepping up efforts to obtain the signatures of the 20 LDP Diet members needed to file papers as a candidate for the party presidency. The campaign will formally begin on Wednesday, with voting on Sept. 22.

The four are: LDP Secretary-General Taro Aso, 67; Kaoru Yosano, 70, state minister in charge of economic and fiscal policy; Yuriko Koike, 56, a former defense minister; and Nobuteru Ishihara, 51, a former LDP policy chief.

On Friday, another former defense minister, Shigeru Ishiba, 51, told a gathering of LDP Diet members belonging to the faction led by Yuji Tsushima, a former health and welfare minister, that he also planned to run.

Pointing to foreign policy and national security issues as well as the growing economic gap between urban and rural areas, Ishiba also told reporters, "Economic issues are not the only topics that need to be discussed."

Political analysts said one factor behind Ishiba's move was a desire among some Tsushima faction members to cement bloc solidarity by becoming a key player in the LDP presidential race.

While it remains uncertain whether the entire faction will back Ishiba, a number of younger faction members insisted that a representative from the faction should run.

Two other younger Diet members also indicated they wanted to run to demonstrate that the LDP was handing the leadership baton to a younger generation. Fukuda is 72.

Ichita Yamamoto, 50, a state secretary for foreign affairs, said: "Our group has continued with discussions in the belief that a candidate should be entered with a campaign manifesto. In the end, I hope to be that candidate."

Yasufumi Tanahashi, a former state minister in charge of science and technology policy who heads a group of younger Diet members intent on speeding up the reform process, also indicated that he, too, would run.

Tanahashi, 45, said, "What is lacking in the LDP is the dynamism of generational change as well as the ability to gather up the feelings of the public."

All three will have to acquire the endorsement of at least 20 LDP Diet members to formally enter the presidential race.

The increasingly crowded field has led to concerns among the other potential candidates. Some may lose their base if all these people run.

Ishihara, the son of nationalistic Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara,is deemed too green for the position by many, including private citizens hereabouts.

Prime minister Fukuda bows at a news conference where he announced his resignation.

NEWS are all over about the sudden resignation of Yasuo Fukuda as Prime Minister of Japan. Varied reactions came from all sectors of the populace. As expected, fliers from major broadsheets gave out free late editions of the news last night. Most TV stations interviewed people from the streets and aired their reactions on national broadcast.

SOME says the timing was a surprise to all, including people close to the former Prime Minister himself. They say there were different plans that need to be carried out. Everything they had planned, they say, were hampered by blocks from opposition parties{ which is understandable,,,,}, hence, nothing could ever be achieved. This prompted Fukuda to resign but the timing appears too soon. Fukuda was said to be still mulling on the revamp of his cabinet before the announcement last night.

CRITICISMS abound about the sudden resignation of Fukuda. Reactions were varied, polls were opened to seek people's mind. Some say they weren't surprised since they saw it coming; Others were disappointed and voiced that Fukuda should have tried to push through with his planned reforms. Still, many were angry at the resignation and asked: 'How many more reshuffles/resignations can Japan tolerate? They suggested that it is time to form another political party that would replace the ruling majority. But a small majority maintains that Fukuda's action was an honorable thing to do.

I BELIEVE it's a combination of all the above views, but I'd like to delve more on the word honorable and how people here have been guided by it since the olden days. That's a far cry from that moley-dopey- power-grabber in some far-away islands whose smiles are as fake as a worn-down papermache in Boac.

BEING honorable is a Japanese trademark since the days of the Samurais. There are of course, specks of bad boys here as anywhere in the world. But in my heart, I believe there are still more honorable men left in government. And the best they could do is to give way to other good men who would lead a nation better than they think they can.

HONORABLE is the word. Fukuda feels he was so ineffective, so he chose to give way to others who might make the reforms go on smoothly. Some Samurais of old even resort to Seppuku/Harakiri {embowelment} to atone for their shame. This trait is sorely lacking in that cold, cold heart {... if ever she has one!} of that squatter by the murky Pasig. Will that sinister, tantrum-trotting madam pave a peaceful way to power-change in her banana republic? Or will the people need to drag her out of Malacanang? OR will she opt for the honorable way of doing a Harakiri? Your guess is as good as mine.

That Elusive GOLD

My eyes and mind have been diverted all these past weeks with the live telecast of the Games right in the comfort of my living room. And I enjoy watching them all. Imagine the pleasure if our Kababayans would have snatched a Silver or two...even a Bronze would suffice.

I can't help but laugh at how the Pinoy Team officials, including the double squatters in Malacanang`s loud cry: "Go for Gold!"

NO offernse intended to the athletes who were part of the Pinoy Team. I know they really dream of having one. Who wouldn't anyway....but everything seems to be a joke. And we all know that, from the deepest cubicle of our hearts.

Nurturing a body needs constant care, right? In the same light, a well-toned, muscled body with all the right curves and abs isn't an overnight miracle. Unless, of course you're a regular Calayan or Belo client, suntok sa buwan ang hangad mo.

Honing a skill is even tougher. And skill is what is needed in any physical competition, just like the Olympics.

China is a shining example. It trains its atletes right after they started to learn to walk. Then there's the process of eliminations...and continuous training. Japan, USA, Germany and all other countries do so on a regular basis. And they have sponsors for athletes like these, usually the companies employing these people. This is aside, of course, from the subsidies and training allowance extended by the government program.

Even Jamaica which recently produced 'Bolt' and other women sprinters claim that it wasn't an overnight sensation. I happen to catch a TV interview aired in one of the sports channel here and the coach showed how they do it there. For lack of facilities, they train on dirt roads [we call them farmer roads here] and run early on. Children as young as five or four do that regularly. Likewise, Kenyans do the walking most of their life, hence their endurance in marathons.

Japan has been focused on almost all sports including Swimming, Judo and Baseball. Each school has a baseball/softball team which compete once a year. This is to say that practice and training is an all-year sked. The process of elimination is done first on area level, then goes on to state/provincial level, which in turn go for the national championship. From these pool, scouts look for the ones they develop for the Professional level.And mind you, these become big earners. Some even go for it in the Major League and earn double, even triple their initial earnings. Athletes are then picked up from various Pro team to represent the National Team in any international competition.

They also have a long tradition on Sumo and Karate, although these are not [yet] included in the Games, the focus here is on body training.

What I want to point out is the fact that Pinoy sport officials need not brag about what they have been doing, which is really nada. The best thing for all of them to do now is to resign and have former athletes run the agency,or the commission, whichever way they call it. Only athletes know best what to do and how. Get rid of politicos who are there only to be seen.

It is time schools focus on the athletics and make the P.E. classes competitive right from the early stages. Every teacher must have their eyes keen on looking for the potential athletes in every kid they handle. And the government must finance the sports program in order to develop the state of the Pinoy health. Enough of those sanabagan junkets which only use people's money carelessly. Sayang! Instead, put them all to benefit the entire population and sports is one of them.

The Philippines is surrounded by bodies of water. We are an island nation, same as Japan. Yet....we still have to produce the greatest swimmer in history. Why is that?

We used to have sprinters, but that was decades ago. We achieved Asian Champs but never reached Gold in Olympics, except for some in Boxing, I guess. This has to be addressed ASAP.

This is a dream of one who have watched numerous Olympics and have groaned at the dismal display of local athletes and 'officials', who, most often outnumber the sportsmen/women in the parade of nations at opening ceremonies. Time to do something if we wanna make a small dent for the next trip to London. It is never too late to do something

The recent signing of an MOA with the Bangsamoro group by the alalays of glueria,da peyk has shocked the entire nation. It shows the true colors of glue and her cohorts in selling the country if they can, to attain their innermost gruesome motives.

I cannot fathom how we, as a people tolerate glueria and her misdeeds. A relative here says why we do nothing. I have explained with professors and teachers here the reason and they all agreed that we aren't doing enough. Sad to hear but true.

Treasonous as it is, why aren't our 'respectable' senators and representaTHIEVES do something? Naunahan na naman ni Lozano mag-file ng impeachment complaint? Naisip agad yun? Ibang klase talaga ang mga alalay ni glue.

The MOA was agreed upon behind the scene and no one in Mindanao suspected anything. Mukhang ito ang istayl ni glue. When was the last time she did it? Yun ba ang sa China para sa ZTE broadband deal? Iba na namang deal ito. Wala pa ngang kalutasan yun...eto na naman si glue. Pa-China!

It's been a long haul to freedom in this time and age.
People have been maimed, robbed, slapped, killed and no one
risked hands and limbs to depend them.
A handful, maybe, but gloria is known to be propped up
by the military brass whom she showers with
the Country's coffers, hence, no dice!
We all have to watch silently as gloria and her cohorts
continue to plunder the economy.

Yes! The die is cast!
The call for glue to vacate a positon she doesn't deserve
constitutionally has been made before by all sectors who
deem glue as a power-grabber, including yours truly.

Senator-elect Trillanes along with many other young idealist
of the military marched out of the courtroom and went to Makati.
Apparently, their escorts are with them.
They, too, must have finally seen the light!

Most of us sit by the window and watch things go by.
At most we don't even lift a finger to do something to right a wrong.
There are people amongst us who know yet do not do anything to do
what is right. And that is a sin, as well. Sin o omission.
While glue and her cabal commit heinous crimes of plundering this country,
we must do what we can to stop her from making the last ditch and
bring the Country down with her in hell. Thank God for Trillanes and
company for shouting and letting the world know that Filipinos
know how to stop corrupt dictators if we see one.

So many things has happened in the past month or so~ since I put into print what I feel for Inang Bayan. I felt that all the 'happenings' are so glue-like. Her signatures are written all over the scandals and the scams. Hence, I didn't post any, waiting for the right moment to do so.....

To tell the truth, I am wary of this glue thing! I am sick and tired reading of her scams and her denial, her pictures, her trips and all, hence, I did not bother to update this blog. I have had it with all these hulabaloo that glue and her cabal of thieves have been concocting all these years.

I have always believed that God, in His Time, He will make things right,...just as He did in the past, and so on with our future. God made things happen when the Dual Dictator left in haste for Hawaii as the crowd swelled in EDSA. At that time, it was said that the people have been dulled by the imposition of martial law and no one seemed to care anymore. But the assasination of Ninoy triggered a change in the way people thought. And little by little, people found their squeaks turn to howl and via continuous protests and boycott, done peacefully of course, we achieved a miraculous transition in EDSA.

The people were granted a new lease in Life, politically, that is, and we were free, again! Then came President Cory, Fidel Ramos, and Erap. The last was short-lived, because after two years or so~ Glue and her cabal, planned and grabbed the power from one of the most popular, if not that loved President of the Republic. I do not like Erap, although I must admit that he was legitimate as a sitting President, unlike that lil devil who grabbed the position, the one with buckteeth and renowned tantrum.

We, the people, have been under this ruthless devil for so long. I do not know, for sure, how long we will have to put up with this scheming, ruthlesss SOB. One thing I know: she wants to sit by her throne near the Pasig for life! She may deny it, but all signs lead to her perpetrating herself and her family in power. Who wouldn't if they get all the loot, courtesy of the country's coffers?

The problem is, she pays them all to answer to her beck and call! The House has become not only a House of Thieves but a House Ready For Sale to the highest bidders! All TUTAs who love money and the smell of it! Like their master, these paid lackeys do not casre whether there are poor people who do not even eat once a day! All they care about is to fatten their stomach and their bank accounts here and abroad.

But God really works in mysterious ways. Don't get me wrong. I am no religious nor do I claim to be one, but I do pray as much as I could for dear relatives and friends and myself, as well, not to mention our dear Inang Bayan which has suffered greatly from the hands of dorobos who continue to plunder the economy. That shit!

As I mentioned, God made some people His instrument so that the truth may be seen by a large number of people. God made some people speak up for the brazen and unprecendented lagayan blues in government perpetrated by the fakes who continue to rake in whatever their hands can lay on. Perhaps, God made Gov. Among Ed speak his mind so that truth will be out. Thank Heaven for honest people like him. He must be emulated by other "PUBLIC SERVANTS" who vowed to serve the country and its people.
True to the description, Gov. Ed is a true SERVANT not only of God, but by the people he serves in Pamapanga. How I wish and pray that there will be more Gov. Ed multiplied by the number of positions in government. Will this pave way for the people to waken from its long slumber? I wonder.....I hope, I mean! No! I pray and pray God that all these be behind us and glue and her cohorts would be a thing of the past!

Meanwhile, the TRAPOs still deny, glue continue to remain silent, and the Common Tao continue to go hungry and desperate. Added to that, numerous soldiers continue to be jailed for unknown reasons and true justice is still wanting in our courts. Trillanes who was legitimately voted by more than 11 million people remain behind bars, not because he was guilty, but because his captors are afraid at what he might legislate in case he is allowed to serve. And the arroyos? Well, well! The daughter made uncalled for remarks against Joey de Venecia because Joey had the guts to say something true against her pa[Y]rents! The father continue to stay away from investigation while the mother doles out 'gifts' from the taxes we pay! Sanabagan!

Then when the heat is on....comes an "explosion" in Glorietta2 in Makati, where the Mayor is a known opposition and one of the staunchest critic of aling glue. It came at the height of the noise created by the latest scandal that has rocked arroyo and her "administration": giving payolas, bribes, donations, funds, Christmas gifts {in October? Ang aga naman!}, what else, shall we say it is?

I called a relative to check if they're OK, here's what I heard Maxxi say: "Diversion tactic lang yun! Para mawala sa isip ng tao ang usapan tungkol sa lagayan!" I was taken aback to hear him say that. I thought: a young lad at that, would comment that way? Goodness! He knows what's happening in this country! And I thought young people do not care. They know.

I was one of those who rallied behind the uncalled for remark/slur made by one of the Desperate Housewives in a US TV soap. It made a rallying point for Pinoys all over the globe to show their indignation against a
giant network. I hope we have the same enthusiasm to work together and rally against a pending dictator who want to gobble the entire nation and make it her own.

The other night,
a TV program had a special show that dealt on the subject of LEADERSHIP and lo! and behold....One of the leaders interviewed was President Cory.(I am always happy if Inang Bayan is featured in a good light, Baby!)

Along with Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, Henry Alfred Kissinger and Alberto Fujimori, President Cory Aquino discussed the qualities of a great leader.

Of course, I don't agree, with the Fujimori, but perhaps, because of his Japanese roots, he was chosen to share his...shall we say, wit?

Anyway, Fuijimori made good when he delivered the Japanese hostages from the rebels' path on that fateful Christmas Party at the Japanese Embassy in Lima. Other than that, I have never liked Fujimori, anyway. He may (still) have a small following in Peru, but is being held in Lima for crimes during his term.

Back to the program.....President Cory was asked what Leadership entails....and she shared her thoughts.

I was elated to see and hear Ninoy's widow's interview, simply because she came out great. She knows from where she speaks. She was a clean President after Marcos,
the cleanest so far in our history.

Can't help but think, too......Why didn't the program think-tank think of gloria, instead? Glue would have loved to be in the spotlight again!

But gloria's stink must have reached distant shores, and she couldn't diffuse them, even if she uses Bayani to clean the esteros near the murky Pasig.

Kudos to President Cory Aquino and Boo-B00 to gloria!

It would really have been nice had it been Free and Brave. But naaah! That wouldn't be proper to address the low-lifes in government service these days, especially the big...very big fishes now caught dipping their hands into the cookie jar.

My, Oh my! When will this ever end? Seems to me, bribery has been
a growing business, and the very reason why people want to be in
public service. Not to serve, but to benefit from the bribes.

They go along the flow from the top doewn to the smallest employee. Gaya-gaya, puto maya syndrome, and we cannot help but stare in awe. The lowliest employees are always good followers, right? So it all boils down to 'Follow-the-Leader' Game.

And most of them go unscathe and unpunished. They go to Swiss and Germany and deposit their loot and enjoy a life of luxury.....while the ordinary Pinoy folk go hungry for days on end.

We all know that there are loopholes and problems with ZTE contract. Besides, that project didn't pass through the proper stages. No biddings, and all that. Why? There are people who wanted them done, ASAP. Period. And your geuss is as good as mine.

I just hope and pray that the Supreme Court continue to be the beacon of hope for the people. Without the SC, where would people go for justice? I was thinking on the line of scrapping the entire project rather than a mere suspension. Never mind if ABalos has received the downpayment from ZTE {complete with those women escorts!}....the people must not be allowed to pay for the kickbacks these unscrupulous Pinoy politicos have received by entering into some questionable contracts.

Let the People be vigilant so there will no more be FEEs that are questionable and BRIBEs in future.

Filipino Chinese businessmen on Thursday condemned an alleged racial slur made by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago during the Senate inquiry on the controversial broadband deal between the Philippine government and China’s ZTE Corp. on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. said the group was taken aback by Santiago’s "irresponsible and insensitive statements against the Chinese."

"Alleged irregularities in the ‘isolated’ [national broadband network (NBN)]-ZTE transaction cannot be the basis of the unwarranted and regrettable condemnation by Sen. Santiago that the Chinese people invented corruption," the group said, adding:

"While her outburst may have been made in the heat of emotion during the ZTE-NBN probe, the general and sweeping racial slur is directed against all Chinese and ethnic Chinese around the world."

The group also said that Santiago’s remarks became "more deplorable," considering that the senator is the chairwoman of the Senate foreign relations committee.

The group said it is demanding an "unqualified apology" from lawmaker.

It must be recalled that Brenda was asking ABalos why he was "close" to the ZTE officials, and while ABalos was talking,
Santiago cut him off and made an observation:

In a pre-departure interview Tuesday, President Arroyo said she ordered an independent investigation into the NBN contract amid allegations that First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo and Commission on Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. were involved in the anomaly.

“When we learned of alleged bribery attempt in connection with the broadband project I instructed that the matter be discreetly investigated, the result of investigation were reported as uncorroborated,” said Mrs. Arroyo.

Abalos was accused by whistleblower and businessman Jose de Venecia III of attempting to bribe him with $10 million to withdraw his company's proposal to undertake the NBN project. De Venecia, a son of House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., is majority stockholder of Amsterdam Holdings, Inc.

Ermita seconded Mrs. Arroyo's statement, saying she had wanted to cancel the deal with ZTE Corporation before leaving for Australia for the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference Leaders' Summit earlier this month.

This statement of Joey earned him a series of reactions, naturally.

To the arroyo clan, well, expected na yun: asar sila kay Joey de V. Nag-react pa si Luli, and made allusions to the receding hairline of Joey and his previous addiction daw.

To the people who wanted the truth: this is a good one! Merong malaking isda na tumukoy kay Mike A.

I am inclined to believe Joey de V. Bakit? Kahit na sabihing naging addict itong si Joey deV., eh ano ngayon? He has probably been gone through hell and now is making a difference in his life by doing something for the country!

Those opposed to President Arroyo had failed in two instances to muster the minimum number of signatures to impeach her. It's been said that because De Venecia didn't allow any of these attempts to prosper, he got concessions from the Palace, a form of blackmail that the First Gentleman is said to be tired of. Congressmen believe that if De Venecia will give his blessing to any impeachment bid against the President, this can finally prosper.

"Lakas has still the numbers, plus the minority bloc," if Lakas will break its coalition with Kampi to side with De Venecia, said a source in Congress. Lakas has 95 members in the House, while the opposition, including the progressive party-list representatives, has about 30. The smaller parties in the coalition have yet to say where they stand in this controversy.

Congressional employees expect this silent war between the Speaker and the President to "erupt soon." And if it gets uglier, "JDV will do a Villar," one of them said.

In 2000, then Speaker Manuel Villar Jr. skirted the process to approve the impeachment of President Joseph Estrada, who earlier backed his speakership bid. Villar read nonstop and unintelligibly the impeachment decision and banged the gavel to seal it, ignoring objections from the floor.

Mr. Abe resigned after a series of flak involving his Cabinet memebers.
His 'men' have been resigning, one after the other and admitted their involvement in some scandals in government.

True to his image as a gentleman and true to his words, Mr. Abe announced his resignations after polls have been resonating the Japanese people's disgust over
the scandals. Besides, Mr. Abe's popularity have been declining, as per the polls being conducted in newspapers and telephone calls. Even men on the streets have been interviewed, parts of which were aired in national television.

Mr. Abe's real intention for the country is beyond doubt, a noble one. He envisions a 'Beautiful Country'...and in fairness, he is a good man. But because he is an 'O-BOCHAMA' or what the Japanese say: A "HAKOU-IRI MUSUKO" [a son who grew up in a box], his conservative plans are not in line with the times.

Even if he was born to moneyed parents, Mr. Abe was often seen [before, as an ordinary lawmaker] as commuting to-and-from work via the train and subway system, in Central Tokyo, an impossible sight for our lawmakers
in -da Pilipins!

MEANWHILE, IN MANILA,

....is a crime where the perpetrator raided the Kaban Ng Bayan ang used it for himself. It involves malversation of public funds.

ERAP's crimes, according to the Sandiganbayan involved the commissions
from the BW shares of stocks and the jueteng payoffs.

Plunder? More like BLUNDER to me, even if I didn't take Law 101....
.........or to anyone with sentido-common!

How about FAIRNESS given on every citizen, including Malacañang's friends who are presumed to be innocent even as everybody and his mother know that they are guilty, while Malacañang's foes suffer the full brunt of the law?

The list of un-indicted culprits gets longer by the day:

BEEN out with workloads and travels here and there for sometime.
Besides, the heat was unbearable! Kaya medyo hindi ko rin maasikaso itong aking blog.
Anyway, since today the Sandiganbayan found Erap guilty of plunder, I felt the urge
to put into writing what I feel. Kakainis kasi, eh!

First, allow me to say that I am not an Erap fan, nor did I like him as a politician. Kaya hindi puwedeng sabihin na kaya ako asar kay goyang, eh, dahil nasa kampo ako ni Erap. No, not that. Asar ako sa magnetik ang kamay, lalo na't tax na binabayad ko ang pinag-uusapan....o Kaban ng Bayan ang involved. Yun lang po.

So, kanina, in-between workloads, (as usual), I peeked into the net to see some Balitas. And what do I see? Erap guilty!

By stroke of some angels hovering around, or is it because I am the "iyakin-type"? Napaluha ako! Nakakainis!

Yup! I know! Maybe, because goyang turned out to be worse than Erap, that's why! We all know what goyang has been up to in the last seven years, right? And compared to goyang, Erap is a saint. No kidding!

The people expected someone better than Erap when gloria, apparently staged a coup with the able help of the Army Generals who, eventually turned out to be the country's General Problems! And so on and so forth...blah-blah-blah- siz-boom-bah!

BEEN reading as much as I can also, and something caught my attention:
That Press release to the Malacanang Press Corps. Kakatuwa, eto:

The press release said Ms. Arroyo “came and went like a thief in the night” because she arrived in Boao “in the wee hours of Saturday,” April 21, and “left at 3:30 p.m. of the same day, but not after witnessing the signing of five landmark economic agreements…
that, in her own words, would…raise the competitiveness of our country.”

The President was there to deliver the keynote address during the opening session
of the Boao Forum for Asia.

As if to invite more malice or ridicule, the press release as titled, “So much investments, so little time for PGMA in China.” Reminds one of those once-in-fashion flirtatious t-shirts that said, “So many men, so little time.”

The press release also gave away a detail about the broadband network deal that has been elusive to critics, who have been asking the government, to no avail, to release copies of the contract for scrutiny. What kind of contract is it? Well, the press release says it’s a “supply contract.”

So much for what the press release called “an avalanche of Chinese investments to the tune of US$904.38 million.”

TO BE JOLOG

Having been out of the country for quite sometime now, I have yet to learn a tremendous list of terms that are "in" these days....I must admit I am no jolog as far as the trendy words are concerned.

You see, I often send and receive txt messages from my friends in Pinas via that SMS thing....and I am oftentimes in awe at the number of words used that do not register in my memory bank. Let us see....

SWAK- as in the text: "Swak na swak ang dating!"

I texted back: "whats 'swak'?
The reply was instant: 'sakto or exactly/fit!
The term was used to describe the tees I sent them.

Shiver-me-timbers!

So if I have to describe the picture above, I should say:
"Swak-na-swak sa rhythm and galaw nila!"

Then one time, I read some more:
....carmi [for karma; jolina [for tuli na]; tsugi, and more!

Of course, I know what "bagets" mean, having heard those words used over and over again as we try to wiggle out of the long arm of my parents as they try to push us out of those 'dabarkads' who keep on calling.....

But there are more words used primarily by gays.....
these words they call "swardspeak" which I find daunting and not necessarily 'sosi'.

I remember reading some words to describe the extravagance of Imelda Marcos. It was described in some british papers as "imeldific!" The meaning is not lost to us: it means exhorbitantly extravagant, leaning on the superflous use of money for personal use..." or something of that sort.

I remember first hearing 'tsugi' used by that gay manicurist who do my Nanay's nails. I wondered what [s]he meant. I was thinking of that word and wondered who's "next"....because in Nippongo, tsugi means next. Apparently, in Pinas, teh word meant to be dead...or "dedo." I was aghast and confused at what the word meant, locally at least.

Language, being a living one, has the capacity to grow and before we know it, we are faced with a deluge of "new terms" by the end of the day. More people using them means they word is coined. When it remains used, thereby accepted by a majority numebr of speakers, then we add a new term in our vocabulary. This is the reason why all Languages, continue to add more in their long lists. While other terms become "dead" after a long while, their definitions have been entered and logged in a certain nation's history of Languages. This is true with major languages like English ...or even the minor ones like Nippongo which enters hundreds of new words every year.

Locally, the latest ones which caught my attention were these:

[*] na-gloria= meaning...naloko[mang-gloria=manloko!]
[*] ma-jonas= meaning 'mawala' or madukot ng militar.
[*] ma-palparan=meaning, ma-salvage, ma-torture, ma-kidnap, mawala sa listahan....
[*] mang-garci=meaning "mandaya sa anumang eleksyon.
[*] ma-honasan=meaning tumakas...as in takas-ng-takas....

There are more of these words....
I wish I could have them all here. But I only know a little from afar.

But knowing these words,makes life bearable among Pinoys who have to make
just tiis while waiting for justice to grind its wheel. Furthermore, Pinoys just bear it out with jokes to forget, even for a while...the looming distress that these "glorias" bring.

HIROSHIMA REMEMBERED

The time: 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 6, 1945-under the sweltering heat of summer:

....62 years ago the Americans dropped an untested bomb called "The Little Boy" from the B-29 bomber Enola Gay overhead at the center of Hiroshima. Three days later, another bomb, this time called "The Fat Man" was dropped at Nagasaki- and together instantaneously claimed 210,000 lives! Others died slowly suffering from the effects of radiation and the black rain.The death toll continues even today.....

Most Japanese at both ends of the political spectrum agree that those attacks were inexcusable. The American leaders of those times insist that the attacks were proper.

The scene here was taken four days after the bomb was dropped. Smoke can be seen still. The once-bustling city-port was flattened and reduced instantly to rubbles. The only thing that was left in this picture was a Buddhist Temple Torii (Gate) amidst devastation, ruin and the stench of burning dead bodies. Another monument to this tragedy is the dome that Hiroshima keeps to remind everyone that war and bombs do not care; they eradicate!!

Sixty-two years hence, the world is still the same, or is it worse?! The only thing that has changed is the news that the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Museum has an American at its helm. Yessiree! And that, is the ultimate irony.

The numbers keep growing. The hibakusha (atomic-bomb survivors) have been fading...with a good number of them slowly dying but most have taken the effort to tell their stories, some too horrifying to listen to.

The survivors are saying that they are not interested in revenge or retaliation. What they are doing is sublimating all of the urge for revenge and anger into this pursuit of a world without war and nuclear weapons.They have been pursuing a move to say to the world and I dare say as well:

NO MORE HIROSHIMAS!....

NO MORE NAGASAKIS!

I hope and pray the world listens........

SEVERAL nights ago, I saw one of the bestest movie I've seen in years. Not because it speaks of sci-fi and all that, which I abhor, actually...no, not that. It speaks of basic human drama that has penetrated the lives of men and women of a generation past.

THE setting was the early 50s (1953, to be exact) and what I am talking about is the McCarthy era in the 50s America. The title of the movie is ...you're right! "Good Night, and Good Luck!"

IT deals with how a group of people working for CBS meet before each show and brainstorm on the latest happening. They then pick a certain topic and deal with it.

THE show went on as usual, but the news about then junior Senator MacCarthy was the truning point. The issue was becoming persistent.The time came when the CBS group can no longer tolerate McCarthy's hurling accusations everywhere that they felt they must speak out. Of course, people reacted both positively and those presumed guilty raised a howl. Even McCarthy responded by accusing Ed Murrow connections with the communists!

McCarthysm, a word coined to mean that anyone who is against the policies of government was deemed a communist. The news rattled several people which sometimes led to their dismissal from office by mere association with known or branded "communists."

BEAUTIFUL lines were delivered: "We cannot defend freedom abroad, if we do not defend it here." ....."I choose my conscience!"....and lots more.

MURROW, the anchorman was even accused by McCarthy himself as having associated with 'communists' in his early days as a reporter. Accusations were hurled, presumably to threaten Ed Murrow and the entire staff. But they didn't give in. He (Murrow) countered that he, indeed had some friends that were supposed-to-be communists, but that doesn't justify that he, too was one.

THE anchorman's persistence and bravery was rewarded when McCarthy was later investigated and the people affected from his barrage and accusations were restored to their former positions in government. He opted to pursue with such diligence the trying order of the day. He persisted and earned the respect and admiration of people not only in the industry where he works, but the entire nation.

IT was a film that could be a reminded to the next generation that the television or media in general, is a powerful medium to delver the Common Tao's cries and woes.

WATCHING the movie made me think and wonder: The very same thing is happening in Pilipinas for the past five-or so-years. People in media were sued with libel...and although the case have been withdrawn, due to 'humanitarian reasons'.....the situation is reminiscent of America in the early 50s.

FREEDOM of speech is a basic human right of each and every citizen in a supposed democratic nation. Basically, no one is supposed to question a person's right to speak for or against the very institution that is mandated to protect its citizen.
Although there are a few journalists who continue to fight the corrupt system we have today, they are dimishing in numbers. Some have been 'bought' or 'swayed' by the powers-that-be.

THIS movie is a must-see, if only to remind people that being wary and losing one's guard makes way for the corrupt and the misfits to survive. Go and see it, if you haven't yet. It's in black-and white that stars, among others George Clooney who plays Fred Friendly,the director of that CBS TV show.

DREAMS~and~CICADAS

I woke up from my reverie with a chorus I find at times distracting but today, I do not know whether to call it a blessing in disguise..... You see, I had a dream which I have not experienced in a long time and the chorus I was referring to were the cicadas chirping.

It is indeed summer and cicadas are everywhere.
Bugs and beetles, too! But what I do not like with the hot summer days are the pesky mosquitoes which swarm me when I go to the small patch I call garden to weed out those unwanted ones. Rains have been few and far-between recently, which probably shooed the frogs away, hence their absence in our midst. Maybe I just 'miss' the croaking, to say the least.

And, oh! Those dreams....I guess I have to write them as soon as...lest I forget
them again! It happens, y'know. Dreams are easily reverted back into the recesses of a person's mind and thus, forgotten in a jiffy....until we go through a flashback when a 'continuity' of sorts happen. Have experienced that, a couple or so- times! Heh-heh!

OK...now about that dream: I dreamt I went boating with ....whom, or where? I don't remember. What stuck into my mind was that >suddenly, I found I was under water and when I looked up, I saw clearly our small boats up the surface. It was blue all over and my companions were trying to hold hands so we don't get separated.

I was beginning to gasp for air when we found ourselves "landing" on a surface where I was able to breathe. I was glad to "arrive" on that area, because of the air. We were then ushered into a place very similar to our own, yet different.

People there never thought of going back to the surface :that is,
our own world. They were contented to be there. All of a sudden I felt the urge to contact some relatives ( as I am wont to do on impulse) and tried to grope for my celfone inside my bag, which, surprisingly was still with me. (=I always use body bags when not working!=) My phone was out! Can't connect.....

We (I don't even know who it was with me!) walked and tried to look
for a telephone booth, so we walked around. Luckily, we found one. I tried to get some coins and put them inside the telephone machine, but still, the telephone didn't register a dial tone. Looking at the backside, I retrieved the unattached cords.
It was then I realized no one can make contact with the 'outside world'.

So we walked and looked at the place. Later, a middle-aged woman volunteered to go and swim back. With the help of some of the "residents" there, we were shown the best way out.

As the woman swam her way, we went back and a small place which appeared to be something like a common agora. We walked around and was taken by some accessories which I even tried. I thought: 'What nice pasalubongs these would make!'

I was thinking: 'What the hell am I thinking?
Here I am away from family and friends, and I was still thinking of pasalubongs!?'

It was at this moment that I heard the cicadas....

Shall I thank the cicadas who wakened we up from my reveries?

I do not have the knack to interpret dreams, but I sure hope that
it means good and that I need not worry.

Lolo says it's the time when local folks talk of ghosts and souls coming back for the O-BON.....and that, perhaps, triggered my dreams. Or I may have been seeing a lot of those TV dramas about ghosts that I entertain such ideas in my mind. Fact is, I seldom watch those 'horror genres!' Whatever it is, I pray and praise that nothing bad was meant by one's productive extension of this mind.

DEAL~or~NO DEAL?

For the last 21 years, the government, through the PCGG,
has been known to work to recover the fabled "Asian Trasures"
...more specifically, the Philippine Treasures...
looted by the dictator and his lady.

The last days of marcos saw them looking grim and full of grief
as they boarded the helicopter to Hawaii. They had with him
his most loyal crony onboard.

A decade or so- hence, we see imelda and her children
return to the country. The same can be said of the cronies....
who made good their presence and the people 'accepted' them,
no matter what!

WE also saw marcos' frozen body flown and kept in a freezer
in his hometown.Through all these, the country saw the
re-emergence of the marcos children
in politics and the return of the imeldific ways of
imelda, the con artist.

ALL can be said in line with the forgiving hearts
of the Filipino but something is wrong somewhere....
I can smell the stink from where I am.
Some instinct says that something wrong is going on somewhere....

LATELY, we see in print the interview on Jose Almonte
and how the PCGG, under Jovito Salonga...
and how Sedfrey Ordonez was supposed to have left the
Swiss capital before the hand-over of several marcos' loot.
Why he did that is unknown to many, and no explanation
was given, either. Jovito Salonga was said to have
issued the order. Now, Salonga is rewarded as a hero of sorts.

A small portion of marcos' loot was later transferred
and held in escrow at PNB. The rest of the loot remain
unrecovered....or were they? I wonder......

ALSO, news about imelda's first-born, imee claiming a
good percentage of GMA-7's ownership which she claimed
were all held in trust by the dictator to Duavit,
who, GMA executives say is the real owner.

NOT to be outdone, here comes bongbong, marcos' only son
claiming that Lucio Tan's holdings aren't really Tan's
but his father's.

WHAT's intriguing is the news that bongbong and even
imeldific herself, will testify against Lucio Tan
as government witness!

DO they have a deal....or NO deal?

I wonder.....

With the crooks and the hooks, and everything in between,
I am inclined to believe that there is something going on.
Imagine the amount in question
....and having been there "sleeping" with interests,
the money marcos stole may reach into so many zeros,
I wouldn't know how to read them!

MAKING a pact with the devil is the lowliest deal of all!

Why in the world couldn't people in government...
these judges find the looters of this country
guilty and send them to rot in jail?
Just send some and you'll find that a
deterrent for future looters.
By allowing these crooks to reenter society
sends signal to would-be-looters and
now-looting scumbags that they,
too can get away with looting the country's coffers!

Queer, I say...because primarily, those crooks in government do what they can to be elected......with one prime purpose: to leech and seep what they can from the country's coffers.

1,790 of China's communist party officials admit to corruption
China's Communist Party says 1,790 of its senior members have admitted to corruption under a program that gives officials relatively light punishment if they voluntarily report their wrongdoing within 30 days.

A spokesman for the party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Gan Yisheng, said on Thursday that the amount of embezzlements and profits illegally made by the officials totaled 78 million yuan, or more than 10 million US dollars.

Mr Gan said the party will take severe measures against corrupt officials who do not voluntarily report their wrongdoing.

He referred to the recent case of former Shanghai party chief Chen Liangyu, who was expelled from the party for corruption charges.

Mr Gan said the case has been handed over to prosecutors and that the former secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Commission is not above being sent to prison. Source:NHK World

BLOGGING ~and ~ A CUP OF COFFEE

BLOGGING makes my day. It's like my first cup of coffee in the morning. I need Coffee to perk me up and make me alive. The same can be said of my blogging.

SINCE I got hold of my laptop, I've been bewildered by the iNet. I wander from News to Tools and in-between them. I love to read. Makes me think....but found out later that not all are worth reading, dude!

THERE are sites where news are a-plenty! Lots of know-how are posted and I just couldn't have enough of 'em! I wish I can remember them all, but alas! Anyway, I just
book-marked them all, for future reference.

NOT to be outdone, Blogs have mushroomed, too! Most are free blogs, (of which, mine belongs!) And when I read them, I am welcomed to a variety of genres as many as the stars in heaven. Some blogs are worth mentioning; some are not. Some are political, where others sway to the diary-like entries and then we are allowed a glimpse of the private and the emotions. Some entries are funny and tickle the readers.

READING made me think...and think better, I suppose. Not all we read are true, of course! I adhere to that line of thinking. Some blogs made me laugh and some made me wonder. Others made me stay away, especially those black humors and weird entries.

SINCE blogging has become "normal"....or shall we say, regular, most surfers were allowed to leave comments. Others need to be members and that led me to start my own. I'm glad I did! It made me feel better, since my blog became my punching bag, whenever i find something amiss. This blog became my friend, when I needed someone to talk to....even in the dead of the night. I need not bother to call my relatives or firends. I have someone right here.

I DON'T care if people read my entries. It just makes me feel happy and great to see some "creations" I made. I have had many things in my mind that I want to put in print. I have lots of stories stored in my PC that has not seen print. These stories as told by my Parents on what led them to be together and all those. My feelings and views on how people acted and reacted at one point in my life....

THERE are so many things to say...so many things to write....IF only I can find the patience to sit and write them all! Some may not see print here (privacy issues) but I hope I can leave something for my family to read when the time is ripe.

I'VE been posting comments here and there, that is, when time and opportunity permits. Loaded with work and maintaining a house with a ward to look after, I must say I find wandering in the iNet a wonder and a respite in　my hard day's work.

WHILE surfing the net the other day, I found some posters at MLQ3's blog who were outrageous in their comments.

I read the whole exchanges and found some familiar names. I thought I'd post a reply but the better side of me made me stop and rest a-while.

SOME poster/visitor in MLQ3's place were saying some unsavory remarks against another blog. It appears that these posters were banned from Ellen Tordesillas' blog. And they were venting their anger in Manolo's.

IMO, I find Ellen Tordesillas' blog quite different from Manolo's in the sense that Ellen posts her articles in them. Manolo reads different blogs and from there, he blogs. His articles which appears in various papers are just mentioned in passing. He normally mentions blogs worth reading, thus making some sort aof free "ADs" for them.
Mine was mentioned a couple[?] of times before, and I must admit I was tickled pink!

ELLEN's blog is hard-hitting and direct to the point: a style which made me take second a look and post some comments. Lately, it has boomed and readership hits have gone high that I find it difficult to access the blog. Regulars claim that the 'arroyo brigade' have been working to regulate, even bar others from making comments.

MANOLO's blog may sway and play, not that hard-hitting as Conrado de Quiros'....but analyzes and makes his point with all those references and back-up data to boot. Sometimes, he uses words and terms that is totally alien to me (pardon my ignorance, but am still learning the way of the dragon, Man!)...which behooves me to consult Mr. Webster first. Over all, his is the wisdom one aspire for.

IN my mind and in my heart, I like to read both, but lately, accessing Ellen's have been quite difficult for me. I must confess I am an impatient lot, and if I can't access one site in one, two, even three hits, I usually cease and go on the next. MLQ3's blog at times have access problems, but is soon remedied at the second hit.

NO two things are exactly the same. Some qualities are found in one that is sorely lacking in the other. But just the same, I can't let the day pass without even taking a peek in almost all blogs listed in my dreams.

I have known this game (sort of,) since way, way back, even before
I started blogging.

and I am now thinking if I'd post that and tag some new bloggers whom I did not meet then......just for fun!).

I never imagined a well-respected Journalist of his stature would answer a fantasy by a simple and humble blogger as that of yours truly. I was surprised and grateful for the time he spent to post such long answers....
and the chance to 'know' a little about MLQ3.

Anyway, so much for that. Let's go to the

But just the same here are 8 nonsense facts about yours truly:

1. I love to eat! Maybe you see me post something about food, drinks [non-alcohol for me!] and fruits and all that! Well, I really love 'em guys and I indulge myself sometimes. But mostly, I cook them myself. Nowadays, I prefer my cooking than eating outside ....except of course, if I am dining out to a "real" resto, then anyone can force me to.....Oh-la-lah!

2. I love to travel. I have seen around 80% of this country I live in (except Hokkaido and the islands down south)....and a good 80% of Inang Bayan as well!
Japan is beautiful, no one can deny that! But to say the Philippines isn't is far from right. Inang Bayan is astounding and different! And I'd always choose Inang Bayan to spend my sunset years, no doubt about that!

3. I am a fast reader. I love books and I can finish a book by one sitting! Unfortunately here, I don't have much collections since ordering English bestsellers heretakes enormous time...and hassle! And I don't use my CCs in the iNet!

4. I drink...no...gulp water so many times a day! I can finish more than 2 liters a day....that is, aside from the fruit juices and some couple of cups of coffee I have from time to time!

5. I adore the Japanese Sweet Corn! The very reason I posted an entry about it here some years back....and retained the memory by posting the picture on the side bar.
I can eat as much as five ears a day...while surfing the net, that is! I have to get up early and drive the long roads that lead to that tiny village by the hills. In these parts, that is where you get the best among the best! It is not only juicy, but the sweetest one I have ever gobbled! Nothing beats that!

6. I love to tinker in the garden: be they in MManila or in this place I now call my temporary home! I usually do my thing early morning or late afternoons, when the mighty sun is still far away. The only time I don't do gardening is when I am away from both....I posted some flowers/trees here....

7. I am scared of heights! I don't know...but whenever I go traipsing in the woods in my Father's hometown here, I can't seem to cross over those hanging bridge. I can't even go onboard those ferris wheels in Fiestas in Manila. As long as it is enclosed, like airplanes and helis...I think it's OK, but those rollercoaster rides? No, Thank You!

8. I am a Cry-Baby, dude! I easily cry over simple matters. I cry when someone is hurt, or die, or treated unfairly! I cry when the drama thickens in a TV series, or a tear-jerker of a movie! I cry when a song hits me right through its lyrics and chords.... and I cry everytime I see people's right being trampled upon in a situation where tyrants reign! I also cry....whenever I see Nature at its best: the vibrant colors of Autumn....or the Snow-capped Mountains in our midst....or the Cool Blue Waters of the verdant seas!

A COMMUNITY AT WORK

ALL ROADS led to the Temple for the Summer Community Service In Our Area this morning......

Protected by hats, and with scythes and towels in hand, community folks, mostly homeowners [why they never include apartment dwellers is beyond me! Unfair, di ba? ] in the area troop to the place picked by Community Leaders. The sun was hot, but no one seemed to mind.

The day was good and sunny.....with temperatures soaring. The morning call was for 8 a.m. but almost all were there early. Some came in bicycles, but most of heattendees< including this humble member, walked our way to the Temple. I had to walk slowly....to be able to take pictures unnoticed using my celfone. He-heh!

AT THE ONSET, the over-all Chairman gave a small talk... while others listened. Here, assignment areas were announced and sub-leaders were enjoined to keep attendance. Non-attendance would elicit fines of as much as 1,500- 3,000 Yen per household, at most. Not that it hurts, coz it isn't that expensive. The thing is......one can see a community in action here....and enjoy the activity!

Young and old alike, men and women all joined hands for a worthy cause. Soon, we all went where we were assigned. The grass has grown and the place has to be cleared of its weeds. Note the weeds.... and the trees needed sprucing up.

AND the task on hand began.....AT first, it was only a faint of whispers.....then it grew into that buzzing-like talks between acquaintances who haven't seen each other for so long...... Laughter and smiles can be heard all over!

Exchanging news about friends and families. just like the cicadas who make beautiful noise....the laughter and the smiles were all there, and not one minded the heat from the scorching sun.....Hands and lips seem to synchronize.....

SOON the ground was clear.....
and the menfolk helped load the weeds to a truck waiting at bay.....
WHILE some find time to stray.......to smoke, maybe, or just plain talk!

THE TEMPLE's warehouse was also opened for cleaning....and checking.
Gadgets and all other paraphernalia used by the community is stored in these two sheds....and used by all in public functions, like the annual MATSURI [FESTIVAL] or the annual BBQ PARTY inside the TEMPLE AREA.

AND SO .....work is done....
and we all went back home, tired, but happy ...........
in thinking that at least today, we found ourselves useful....

AND THE same thing will be repeated next month....and the month after next!

IN ONE YEAR, HOMEOWNERS ARE REQUIRED TO LEND THEIR
TIME AND HELP AROUND 4 TIMES DURING THE SUMMER SEASON.....
depending on the need of the moment.

ALL activities are geared towards October,
where the Festival To Thank The Gods
For A Bountiful Harvest usually takes place.

Before we left the area, our Group Leader was handed a basketful of drinks, all canned: Tea... Coffee, Colas, all kinds! I picked this up. WHY? I find it funny! Japanized English, that is! Cheers!

Yet they haven't cleaned their backyard yet with the killings, the lying
and the cheating including the numerous disapppeared, prominent of which were the two UP students who were taken along with a farmer in Bulacan, and consider Jonas Burgos who was abducted and dragged in April. No news yet, no body found as of this moment.....

Release all political prisoners, then! Those who dare oppose arroyo and her men!
Release Trillanes and let him do his work at the Senate! Release Erap, who is the rightful President of the Republic, having been truly elected by the people until "something happened" in 2001.

Release them ASAP...before ye dare say that and make pleasant copy to international press. Pa-Pogi points? The world already knows!

And, speaking of Jonas Burgos' case....was it coincidence that the CA court Bluiding got burned and those 'important records' burned? Sniff-sniff....something fishy?

I am thinking...there are a lot of things happening in Inang Bayan that can compete with Ripley's Believe -It-Or-Not trivia. Look, Bedol collected the CoCs...then he claimed it got lost! Then there's joc-joc who went a-missing with all the funds used up! Same thing with garci. These people never run out of jokes, man!

And, lest we forget.....

In the predawn hours of July 27, 2003, more than 300 military officers and men seized the Oakwood apartment-hotel in Makati City, protesting corruption in government and demanding the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The mutiny failed and the mutineers landed behind bars. Most of them have pleaded guilty to a lesser offense or entered into a plea bargain. But several dozen have opted to go on trial, believing in the justness of their cause.

Four years hence, the Magdalo spokesman, Antonio Trillanes IV... is now a member of the Senate, having been elected by more than 11 million voters from all over.

Yet the fight is far from over. Most of those detained gave way, simply because that is the game gloria wants to play! She simply wanted to coerce these people to cave in and thus, achieve the last hurrah: 'O! Kita nyo na!? Eh di sumuko rin kayo!'....complete with that sneer that only glue can muster!

People cannot blame these men for doing Oakwood. They believed in something and thus, made some move towards change.....while most of us looked, and did nothing.

Even as we speak, AT4 is still in jail, although his colleagues in the Senate has made appeal for the court to allow him to attend sessions in the Chamber.

Meanwhile, all the 'core officers' as the military people describe them, still awaits the long arm of justice to do its will....and their lives are wasted....with no work, no salary, no nothing.

....And as far as AT4 is concerned, he awaits the decision of the court if he be allowed to do his new job as Senator of the Republic.

Let's just hope justice don't fail them as they find their way through gloria's enchanted kingdom.

The House opened to vote their Speaker early Monday and
most first-termers stared in awe.....
not because the spectacle was something worth emulating....

The first-termers sat uneasily in their seats and stared
as shouts of older lawmakers demanding to be recognized by the
presiding officer, whose legitimacy they were questioning.
This was compounded by cheers and jeers from a partisan gallery.

Some writers say it's democracy at work,
but for most neophyte members of the House,
the shouting and the bickering leans more on the
palengke side of the House of Crocodiles.

Passions were at a high pitch as the debates that started at 10 a.m.
showed no sign of a clear result at past 2 p.m. They rose even higher
because of apprehensions of not having a House leader by the time
gloria arroyo was to deliver her supposed State of the Nation Address at 4 p.m.

As soon as House Secretary General Roberto Nazareno
ascended the rostrum, members of the opposition and
of the Garcia camp rose and filled the plenary with shouts of
"Mr. Presiding Officer! Mr. Presiding Officer!"
----precisely to question his serving as such.

Nazareno, you see, is known to be close to De Venecia
and the opposition and the Garcia camp, had wanted someone else
to preside over the amendment of the House rules to pave the way
for a secret vote for the new Speaker.

But the majority that favored De Venecia voted down the motions of
Garcia's supporters to do away with Nazareno. But of course! These
sanabagans have the numbers!

BTW, why secret balloting in a Chamber voted by the people?
Isn't is secret balloting is only applied to the people's direct choice?
When assembled inside the Chamber, isn't it logical and legal to use
viva-voce instead? What happened? They og top their usual way, don't they?

Then there is the speech delivered by gloria.

Summer Heat and All Those Sweat!

Officially, it' summer in the Land of the Rising Sun, and,
amidst the rains, and typhoons that come visiting
during these months,the summer heat are known to be unbearable.

Summer months here are notoriously hot and mushy,
which can lead to a range of health problems.
Summer fatigue leaves people feeling tired, lethargic and/or
sleep-deprived. Many people lose their appetite and
become irritated, while others suffer
digestive problems such as diarrhea, constipation
and/or giddiness...not to mention the onslaught of
those that attack the feet: those watery-thingy-yucky ones!

Summer fatigue refers to a condition brought on by prolonged
exposure to the sweltering summer heat, but these days summer fatigue
starts early even in late June for some people, because of
sudden changes in the weather and freezer-like air conditioning
in trains, buses and buildings.

A lot of people can tolerate the change of temperature
between 5 degrees C. at a time, but during summer, the difference
could jack up to as high as 12-15 degrees at most!
And these conditions should not be taken lightly,
according to doctors.If left unattended, it can
lead to dehydration, cramps and heat stroke.

And what do we do to avoid such conditions?

*-Wear light Clothes.They have this crepe-shirts that
goes easy on the skin. Light on the washer, too!
*Bring a cardigan, in case you feel
cold inside air-conditioned rooms.
*Turn coolers down. Saves the earth, as well!
Study says that coolers are the culprits, sometimes!
*Get enough sleep. If you can't, then turn on the cooler for a while. Using the cooler throughout is one cause of summer fatigue, too.
*Exercise regularly.People who can sweat effectively are less likely
to suffer from fatigue because their bodies are better conditioned
to accommodate temperature changes. Regular exercise can prepare
people for that. It also helps them build stamina to survive the summer.
*Eat three meals a day. Summer vegetables like eggplants, tomato and cucumbers (God is really great! He timed these veggies & fruits
for summer!)contain antioxidants that help protect against
ultraviolet light. Local summer fruits such as watermelon and pears
are rich in the minerals that are lost due to perspiration.
Summer tangerine rich in potassium and magnesium, is also good
because its citric acid helps people recover from exhaustion.
The key, however, is not to gorge on any particular food item
but to -eat a little bit of all of them-.

COLD SOUP

Better still, try those cold soup...similar to those served in French Dinners
during the summer season. Don't forget to cool them first before serving.

I like fish tanks, or aquariums.
They give balance to things on this earth.
Be it the home or in the workplace......
I love to look at the fish swim here and there.

The graceful movements of tamed sea creatures and divers of the
human kind always convey that peace and serenity in my book.
Gazing at the aquarium always bring me that calming effect quite
similar to the calm one experiences when snorkelling or scuba diving
under the great blue sea.

TOKYO LAKWATSA MONOGATARI

Amidst the heavy downpour, I had to go to Tokyo last week.

Of course, I can't ignore Tokyo Tower calling from high above.

So I went up there for the nth time and savoured Tokyo from up
333 meters high. Looking down from 150 meters, this was what I saw:

The Tokyo skyline was really hazy,
with Typhoon No.4 looming beyond the horizon.....

From the Yotsuyasanchome Station (where I stayed),
I took the Metro Tokyo Subway System around as much places
as my feet and energy can muster....

Tired and weary, but very happy (with numerous shopping bags in tow), I decided to go back home....and wait for the

The dark sky said it all. The rains kept pouring
and Typhoon Number 4 made landfall in the southernmost part
of this country. But back in Inang Bayan, the gloom was
characteristically the same. And the tainted
COMELEC proclaimed another Miguel: Zubiri, that is.

Bittersweet victory? Or is it just bitter?....and never sweet?
Either way, the people knew that the young Pimentel was winning,
until they counted Maguindanao's ballots.

He eventually overtook the number counts and, guess what?
We expected that! What this people would do just to gain power, ei?
Just like the old hag. Like his master before him, they both used
their connections only this time, it's not "Hello garci!"
but "Hello, bedol!"

And today, people who go against the tide and say anything against her majesty from her enchanted kingdom, will be branded a communist! Sounds like the 50s USA,or even Kremlin, and the Gulag!

So much tampering, so many violations, so many killings and the disappeared, so many lies! This is the legacy this fake administration will definitely leave the country plundered doubly, no...many times over since Estrada was booted out from his legitimate seat by the Pasig.

The sky is hazy.

The rainclouds amass overhead.

The future is bleak.

Escudero was farthest from my mind, but becoz he was with GO,
I thought, 'Why not?'

All these for naught!

I have heard these words said over and over again in the past. But we often do not recognize that the words have become hollowed and that we ourselves allow these people 'to sit at our table' and feed on our blood (taxes)! We must remember!

As the electorate has been awakened, thanks to that stinking mole by the Pasig, I am sure we shall overcome all these hulabaloo soon. The people will remember what they say and do, and the sooner they shed their true colors, the better for us to think. Not all who come in sheep's clothing are gentle lambs; most of the time, they are wolves who long to go to their pack again, and again, and again! That, we must remember!

Lest we forget, it is time to remind one and all that there are a lot of lowlifes who would do anyything to gain power. They belong to the same power-grabber who can never satiate their lust to stay in power. And we know the reason why. Most have set their sights on 2010....and that, is exactly WHY we must remember!

Remember the wolves in our midst!

They are bound to eat us with their sweet howls.

Gloria's men includes the greedy crocs who inhabit

and care for nothing at all except themselves.

Same is true with those who work for her so
she can stay in office illegaly, that is.
gloria's men must do it or they die.
When gloria goes, they all go with her
...to hell!

All these they do, despite the desperation in the hearts of the

FAMILY

In almost everything we say and do, there is always looking after. Not checking things out would spell disaster in more ways than one. This is best observed in the smallest unit of society: the Family.

A couple look after each other. Soon, when the stork arrives, the parents look after their children. This goes on until the children themselves grow old and make their own families. It doesn't stop there. It can go on till the children's hair turn grey.

Looking after the eldest was quite a job. Parents must set the rules straight and solid, so the next kid would just follow the `leader.' Then the rest would be smooth-sailing. But of course, parents need to follow up, lest the rules break somewhere along the way.

I remember my Mother used to say:
"My son is my son, until he gets himself a wife. But my daughter's my daughter until the rest of her life."

I used to think: maybe she is just patronising me. You know, those kind of words Mothers say to their daughters so the daughters would likely care for their Moms in their old age. Little did I know that the care and Love a Mother gives to her children, be they sons or daughters goes on until after the parents say goodbye.
On second thought, my Mother must have been a little jealous when my brothers got married and established their own nest. Perhaps she longed for the usual hugs and kisses my brothers used to do. Oh well....

But then I stayed with my parents until the last bachelor eloped. It was then that she said those lines to me. The very same time I decided I wouldn't leave her. It turned out that she did, earlier than expected.

Nothing can compare to what our parents must have done to bring us up in this world.
I can just imagine how parents spend sleepless nights mulling on ways and means to relate, or that IN-word commonly used these days= "bond" with their children.

God must have had His purpose why He took my parents away that early....but this much I know: God in His wisdom gave me my parents and I couldn't ask for more. I learned to know my parents and with that short period, I learned to know and love them. Nothing ever compare with the Love they gave us.

The recent scenario is disturbing. And I feel betrayed.

The midterm elections' results proved to be a resounding slap to the face of gloria and her men. The people chose most GO candidates as against the well-oiled machinery of gloria's TUTA. The people have spoken: we are sick and tired of this illegitimate people who run the government! And we tried to find guys who will stand for principle.

Some of the GO winners were men I believed in: Alan Peter and Trillanes IV. Despite all odds, Alan Peter Cayetano was elected Senator. Trillanes also ran, and having been accused by the courts due to his involvement in Oakwood, he was not allowed to campaign himself. Yet, still, these two won the hearts of the people who wanted change. But the difference stops there. Trillanes is proving himself to be a man of conviction: he is living up to his words, unlike Alan Peter. And I thought Alan was really great, hence I pushed for him.

The same can be said of Escudero and a kapitbahay: Manuel Villar. I must admit I was really apprehensive of Escudero. He was the son of a marcos crony and thus, never wanted to include him in our list. However, like most Pinoys who wanted change against gloria's moves, I gave in and voted for him. Manny Villar is different. I believed in him since way, way back. He is unbelievable as business acumen is concerned. He has built an empire in Las Pinas and thereabouts. Being a 'southerner' for quite sometime, I simply chose him. Period.

Today, we hear some unholy alliance being concocted behind dark alleys of political corridors. This speaks of dark intents and dark secrets. And I find myself waiting for clear words from those concerned to deny all these, but alas, there are none.

All these for the position now at stake in the Senate.

Villar is running again for the Senate Presidency. So with the veteran Aquilino 'Nene' Pemintel, Jr. Thus, the problem begins.

It seems that there were Opposition winners who never were hiding behind sheep's clothing. The dark goats were there, all along! This brings to the open the names Cayetano, Escudero and Villar, himself to the fore. These three have formed an agreement to join forces with the administration senators to put Villar as President of the incoming Senate. It appears that Villar promised juicy committees to people who will support him. Of course, we are talking of the committees in the upper chamber and they mean budgets counting in millions: money, moolah, dinero ad infinitum, not to mention the power these positions wield as far as investigation, confirmation and other "assistance" they could muster.

Ambition is good, but when ambition gets tainted with personal interests, then it begins to corrupt everyone. Villar never denied his ambition to run in 2010. The same is true for Escudero, whose name has been whispered as gunning for the VP slate. Of course, all senators are qualified to do so, as well, but most have been discreet. Villar's name have been floated since before he ran in the last elections.

Using the Senate Presidency to gain more mileage is a must, I know....BUT to jump ship and form an alliance with arroyo IS THE wrong move. This news made me realize Villar was a mistake! The same is true with Escudero and my, oh my! >...Cayetano! These three stooges suck!

Sayang kayo! You've just branded yourselves traitors, and sit with the old hags of the Senate: brenda, inkorporeyted.

A great number of us may just be observing, but we shall remember what you do and say. The Filipino electorate may no longer be fooled. No, not this time.

Japan's Defense Minister Fumio Kyuma has offered to resign to take responsibility for his controversial remarks about US atomic bombings of Japan in 1945.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mr Kyuma expressed his intention to resign to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Mr Abe accepted this.

Mr Kyuma triggered criticism for saying on Saturday that it is his understanding that the atomic bombing of Nagasaki brought the war to an end, and it was something that could not be helped.

It's worlds apart from what is happening in glue's "Enchanted Kingdom!"
His men have oftentimes blundered and erred.....including the master cheat herself, but nowhere can we find resignations or giving up borrowed powers, regardless if the entire populace raise their howls.

May trabaho ang aking kaibigan, kaya't hindi niya makayanan ang gawain ng iba, lalo na ni Tish. Gaya ng karamihan ng ibang forumer,istambay si Tish sa Forum. Umaga hanggang hatinggabi,naroroon. Paano malalaman? Madali lamang! Nakasulat naman ang oras kung kailan naitala ang bawa't posting.

MINSAN, nagsimula raw itong si Tish ng isang thread. Ang pamagat: FORCED DONATION.

HINDI mapigilang hindi sumagot itong aking kaibigan. Naisip niya kasi, baka may makabasa na ibang tao, lalo na ang mga kabataan, maisip na tama ang ganoong gamit ng salita. Maling kaalaman yun... Kaya sumagot ang kaibigan ko ng ganito. "Mukhang alaganin yata ang salitang gamit, kapatid. Dahil kung forced ang donation, iba na ang dating." Ginamitan pa ng kaibigan ko ng salitang "Kapatid" kahit na alam daw niya kung ano si Tish [*halata sa mga larawang inilathala; at dahil sa matagal na rin naman siya sa Bansang JP, kaya madaling malaman ang status ng isang tao, sa kanyang pananamit at salita*] dahil sa gusto ng kaibigan ko na maging malambot ang dating ng sagot niya.

MAY mga nakakaunawa ng tamang pananalita na nag-komento rin. Sabi raw ng iba: "Kung forced ang donation, eh extortion na yan!" Natural na asahan ang mga kakampi ni Tish, na marahil, may kakulangan din sa bokabularyo ang nagsabi raw ng: "ayos din naman, ah!"

ANO ang naging reaksyon ni Tish? Aba'y nagalit daw. Bakit daw iyon ang sinabi..ATBP...
Natatawa na lang ang kaibigan ko. Bagaman, marami ang nagkomento ng kagaya ng sa kanya, bakit siya lamang ang sinita ni Tish?! OK lang, isip daw niya. Sinagot din nang maayos, dahil "ayokong bumaba sa hagdanan", turan ng kaibigan ko.

TILA walang humpay ang pagpapasaring ni Tish, hanggang sa iba pang threads. Nag-komento na nga raw ang Moderator: "Forced donation is an oxymoron!"

ITO ang aking palagay::

MARAMI sa mga "wannabes" ang nais magparada nguni't halatang may kakulangan. Kung nanaisin natin na magsalita ng totoong damdamin, maaari nating gawin nang derechahan, nguni't bakit pa ba pag-aaksayahan ng panahon ang isang taong tila ayaw tumanggap ng opinyon: opinyong makakatulong para rin naman sa kanyang sariling kaunlaran?

ANG sa akin lamang, kung hindi kayang sabihin sa salitang banyaga, maaari rin namang sabihin sa Wikang Pamabansa. Marami sa mga nakausap ko ngayon, ay waring naiilang na na magsalita ng Tagalog o Filipino, dahil " nawawala raw ang kanilang pagka-sosyal.

HINDI kasalanan kung ang tao ay may kakulangan sa kaalaman. Kaya nagiging mali ay dahil na rin sa taglay na kayabangan at tingin nila marahil sa sarili ay ganun na kataas. Mahirap lumipad nang matayog, sapagka't ang bagsak niyan ay siguradong kalabog. Yun bang tipong mas mataas pa sa kalabaw ang langaw na nakatuntong doon.

Ganyan din ang napansin ng aking Lolo sa mga Filipinang naparito at nagtrabaho. Sa una, akala mo'y mga basang sisiw na sobrang ngiti at pakumbaba. Nang nagkalaman na ng ilang Yen ang pitaka, masalubong ka man sa Supermarket, parang wala silang kakilalang noong araw ay hiningan ng ulam at iba pang pangangailangan. Minsan, natanong ni Lolo kung lahat ba ng Filipino ay ganoon ang ugali. Sabi ko naman: "Hindi naman. Depende sa pagpapalaki ng mga magulang yan."

THERE's the much-talked about "Hello, Garci?" controversy, to which gloria of the thousand lies have admitted, albeit indirectly, by saying: "I........am........sorry." She delivered it with such look that it behooves every Pinoy who saw it as something rehearsed under the tutelage of film director Lupita K.

THEN there's that Pidal Files....or the Rizal Day speech, the most expensive highway in all the world, and the shortest, named after the Malacanang gloria's father, DM, would leave any Common Tao smirk with disgust, and many more. I could enumerate them all here, but the space, my dear, wouldn't suffice, I assure you.

LAST week, outgoing Negros Oriental Rep. Herminio Teves had claimed that the congressional confirmation process was attended by extortion involving some members of the CA. He said a cabal he called the “Big 5” extorted up to P5 million from government officials seeking confirmation of their appointments from the body.

IT seems that the bombshell doesn't stop there: Take note of this:

MANILA, Philippines -- A former education official has revealed details of the alleged extortion racket in the Commission on Appointments, involving the confirmation of two former education secretaries.

But the way the official, who asked not to be named, told it, the racket more often than not involved “horse-trading,” not always in money terms but in the form of positions, projects and favors of one sort or another from the Department of Education (DepEd).

The DepEd has the biggest budget of all government agencies.

The former education official said that on at least two occasions during the confirmation hearings for then Education Secretaries Florencio Abad and Edilberto de Jesus, the DepEd was asked for money in exchange for speeding up the process.

He said in 2004, the House contingent in the CA invited Abad and other education officials to a meeting at a restaurant in Quezon City.

He said the congressmen’s group was led by Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay who served as the group’s unofficial spokesperson.

He quoted Pichay as saying that P5 million would have to be made available for each congressman.

He said Abad agreed but said the amount would not be in cash but in the form of school buildings, an outlay for teachers and furniture. Abad also insisted the amount be spread out over two years “or the budget of the DepEd would be affected.”

‘Everybody needs it’

Abad, who is himself a former member of Congress, later told the DepEd officials that he agreed to the deal as “everybody needs it [DepEd funds] anyway.” Abad got his confirmation.

“The question is, was the amount in exchange for confirmation or a palambing [sweetener]. We got the impression that that was how the game was played. I would not have been surprised if, had he [Abad] not agreed to the deal, he would not have been confirmed,” the source said.

Earlier in 2003, during the confirmation of De Jesus, the source said two congressmen approached the secretary and said he needed to “make available” a certain amount. The two congressmen also wanted 30 percent of all DepEd textbook contracts.

“He [De Jesus] said that in principle, he would not make these deals,” the source said. Besides which, the textbook contracts had already been concluded and the books delivered.

The official said the two congressmen “made sure” De Jesus was not confirmed. Not only that, the source said the two congressmen made sure the DepEd was hauled before the House committee on good government on the issue of the textbook contracts.

“Clearly, it was a quid pro quo. The worse part was that the two were Lakas guys,” the official said.

When De Jesus tried to raise the issue with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Malacañang officials, he was told “bahala ka sa confirmation mo” (you are on your own). De Jesus was never confirmed.

Abad told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that it was the “usual” practice for congressmen to ask for concessions from officials seeking confirmation.

“I don’t know if you can call it a bribe but [it’s] usual for solons to take advantage of the CA and budget hearings to ask for projects, appointments or the resolution of local constituency issues,” Abad said in a text message.

Pichay denial

Contacted for comment, Pichay on Tuesday denied that he or any member of the CA had asked Abad for anything.

“That is not true. In fact, it was he [Abad] who requested the meeting,” Pichay told the Inquirer.

Pichay recalled that Abad “wanted to be confirmed immediately. We said ‘OK, no problem.’”

During the meeting, Pichay said Abad gave them a list of projects for every district.

“There is nothing wrong with that. We told him to implement these immediately. But we never asked for anything,” Pichay said.

He also pointed out that the issue was taking on political color as Abad was a member of the Black and White Movement which had sought the ouster of the President.
